This book of 6 short stories was a disappointment. "Making Waves" by Donna Kauffman was a nice tale, with good dialouge, lots of sex and likeable people. The other 5 stories had many problems, mainly the authors having a hard time fleshing out their concepts in such a short venue. MaryJanice Davidson's story was especially troubling as her female lead was just downright mean and unlikeable. Lucy Monroe's tale did not make much sense as it jumped from setting to setting within the same paragraphs. Pass on this one.
This is a collection of short stories. I giggled. The sex was hot, the characters were fun, and I giggled. These stories are full of hot sex (well, except for one), so if that isn't your thing find a more traditional romance.
Kauffman's "Making Waves" was a good story, the longest in the book. I enjoyed it, but it hadn't pulled me in yet. It is one of the two weaker stories in the book--but given I still enjoyed it, the collection is pretty good.
Warren's "Let It Snow" started out with the "camerameanie" which made me laugh, and everytime it came up I laughed again. Kudos to the author for figuring out a reasonable way to get them stuck in the snow in the middle of Chicago. I was reading this during really cold weather too.
McCarthy's "You, Actually" reaffirms the fact I enjoy the author. Attacking reindeer, bad jokes (what's the difference between snow men and snow women? Snow balls!). The reader knows the big misunderstanding between the two of them from the start, but it works to watch them figure it out.
Davidson's Undercover Claus wasn't bad. It was much better than the collection of hers I read earlier. She doesn't write sex scenes--she hints at them then skips over them. Which isn't nesc bad, but is distinct in this collection. Ding-dong-ding-clank was cute. This is the other weak story. The back of the book has the name of the hero & their first interaction wrong, though!
Monroe's Silver Bella takes on a different type of world. Good story, but one of the earlier ones had also had the "wanna be a housewife" vibe and that bothered me a bit. Fortunately most have women who enjoy what they are doing (or at least have a goal to change to something better). I never quite figured out Bella's goal here, but then again, neither did she I think! The cowboy's were both a nice touch and a distraction.
Carr's Snow Day was...odd. I liked the characters, I liked the setup...but it jumped a bit. She was in the car then back in the living room, then they were going home but were next to the same tree they had been? Discontinuities were in there somewhere. I just skimmed that and kept reading. This is maybe the worst edited story, but it was cute enough one can skip the problems without too much issue.
Overall, much fun. I giggled, I laughed, I'd read most of them again.
There are 6 short stories and so far I've read 4 in one day and plan on reading the other 2(mccarthy's and davidson's). The one by Lucy Monroe is Jake and Bella's story (they're the brother of Lise and sister of Joshua who start off her mercenary series with the title 'Ready'). Donna Kauffman's story is the story of 1 of 4 brothers (the others I looked up and are in Jingle Bell Rock, Bad Boys Next Exit, and Catch Me if You Can). Susanna Carr's story was a quick sexy read but the storyline wasn't all that great IMO though it was good for this type of story I suppose. Nancy Warren's was another quick sexy read though not very believable but nice tidy happy endings all around!
