Another book with Amish characters from Ms Brunstetter. At first I had a hard time liking Miriam- she seemed very cold and bitter- but I changed my mind as the story advanced. I did enjoy the book and plan to read the rest of the series.
This was a little different from most Christian books I've read. Miriam was not a happy person. Her first love jilted her, and she just could not put it behind her and go on. She blamed herself for so many bad things that happened that were out of her control. I really wondered if she'd ever be able to overcome all the negative feelings she had.
A slow moving text of an Amish woman who struggles with keeping Christ in her heart and keeping cheerful in the midst of circumstances. The book has a good message, but is a slow and lazy read, and does not do much for entertaining the mind. Book also uses a lot of Pennsylvania Dutch Amish which was found to be difficult to understand.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was just my type. This book is a lot different then most books now days, it was a good book but it was also very clean which was something I really liked about it. This book didn't have killing or any other negetive actions or words. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
Miriam Stoltzfus was once filled with wonderful dreams for a future with the man she'd loved since childhood, until he moved away and married someone else, leaving her heart a bitter shell. Now Miriam is known in her community as the "old maid" schoolteacher with a "heart of stone"
Amos Hilty wants to court Miriam, but she's certain that he only wants a mother for his daughter and a wife for convenience. Her heart warms to a more interesting friendship in the form of Nick McCormick..a newspaper reporter outside her Amish faith, who is easy to talk to and, incredibly, makes her smile again.
Will Miriam ever let go of her bitter spirit and surrender her will to God? Or will she leave the Amish faith and find what she longs for in the outside world?.......Very Good Book....
A very nice and quick read by Wanda Brunstetter... An Amish woman is filled with bitterness after her beau left to marry another woman... She no longer has any faith or trust in men... She is known in her community as an old maid school teacher with a stone heart... Will she marry for convenience in her Amish faith or will she marry and English newspaper reporter outside her faith... a very touching story. dg
