I didn't enjoy this as much a Stephanie Plum novel, but a fun read just the same. Great for the beach or vacation. Engaging, but not much brain power required.

I think I had higher expectations of this book. I love Evanovich's Plum books and this book just isn't a Plum book. I tried not to let this sway my judgement of this book but over all it kind of did. I wasn't able to fully get into the characters or the storyline. I think this was my issue, however, not the storyteller. The repetitive referal to Sam as NASCAR Guy kind of irritated me but not enough to stop me from finishing this book. I think over all the book was decent and interesting enough for me to pick up the second in the series.

Wonderful first book in Janet's New series. Stars a great new female lead, a NASCAR driver, and the usual cast of wild characters. Very funny.

This is a high-octane misadventure with hot nights, high stakes, cold-blooded murder, and NASCA Guy. That about covers what a good novel needs. I've got the book, you add the chocolates and comfortaqble chair.

Excellent, told in first-person, alot like Stephanie Plum! Interesting that she is continuing the Sam Hooker character from her other book.
Helpful Score: 2
A thrilling, high octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver who's along for the ride. As usual, Janet Evanovich does not disappoint!

Interesting plot, moves along & keeps you wanting to find out what happens.

Stephanie Plum and Alexandra Barnaby are similar characters. I wish Janet Evanovich had tried a bit harder to make them different. At times during my reading I would forget that this wasn't Stephanie. Overall however a very good book with moments of laugh out laughs and on the edge of your seat suspense.

Another series, another sleuth for Janet Evanovich! I found this to be a fun-filled read that I completed in two days! Evanovich's writing is entertaining and humorous, the kind that takes your mind off the serious things in your life and offers an escape to another world, this time Florida and Cuba. Don't get me wrong, there are some intense times with bullets flying and you wonder if the characters are going to make it, but, in the end, Alex Barnaby prevails and I am looking foward to reading the sequel, Motor Mouth.

Alexandra (Barney) Barnaby worked in her father's garage during her school years and even drove a race car. She is now employed by an insurance company. After receiving a strange call from her brother with a woman'screams in the background she takes off for Miami to look for her brother.
There she meets "NASCAR Man" who drives for NASCAR and is also looking for her brother as he has taken off with his sixty-five foot Hatteras and sailed away. This becomes involved with Cubans and why they are looking for Barney's brother too.

Not as good as her Stephan Plum series, but still a fun adventure. Huzzah, Janet Evanovich!!

This is a normal Evanovich book with funny, and implausible, situations. However, it is fun to read, and you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. As a dog ower, the scenes with the dog are sometimes quite hysterical.

"Metro Girl" is a good fun read. It made me laugh out loud or chuckle a good number of times and had just enough suspense to keep you going. The characters were unique, with the main character being a spunky, gutsy person out to rescue her brother & friends.

I wasn't that crazy about this book. I like the Plum series much better.

I liked this story as much as the Stephanie Plum books. Barney has the same sort of bumbling luck to avoid disaster, and it was a fun read as well.

Evanovitch writes about her heroine, Barney Barnaby frantically searching for her missing baby broth who drives on the NASCAR circuit. On the way she becomes involved with Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver. I like everything Janet Evanovich has ever written, kand this is another of her screwball mysteries.

A comic misadventure from the start, this mystery is a good combination of light thriller and fast-paced action. Alex Barnaby receives a late-night call from her brother that ends in mid-sentence with a woman screaming in the background. Being the dependable sister that she is, she catches the next flight down to Miami to find out what happened. Alex soon discovers that her brother has gone missing with a recent Cuban immigrant who may or may not know the location of a warhead and a fortune in gold. She cuts down the inept bad guys with her wit and a few well-placed accidental kicks and moves.

Alexandra (Barney) Barnaby roars onto the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother, "Wild" Bill.
Leave it to the maverick of the family to get Barney involved with high-speed car chasae, a search for sunken treasure, and Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver who's good at revving a woman's engine.

Alwxandra Barnaby(Metro Girl) mets Sam Hooker (Nascar Guy) and they go in search of her brother and his boat. Good read - I laughed out loud at times.
Alexandra Barnaby got the brains in her family. The little gray cells certainly bypassed Barneys younger brother, Wild Bill. Hes a pretty good boat captain but hes taken on a new job with his eyes conveniently closed. Before long, Bill goes missing, so Barney is dispatched to Florida with the bugs and the heat and the bad-hair-day humidity. Barneys thinking things cant get too much worse as she makes the rounds of South Beach, unemployed and sunburned, following her brothers trail of broken-hearted bimbos.
Too bad for Barney--shes wrong about the getting worse part. Enter Sam Hooker. Somebodys stolen his boat and the trail leads to--you guessed it--Wild Bill. Since Will Bill is missing, Hooker decides to follow Barney and see if she can lead him to his boat.
Dogs and cats never die in the world of Evanovich, and bad guys are almost always brought to justice. Sam Hooker and Alexandra Barnaby, in their quest to reclaim whats theirs, blast through Florida from Daytona straight on to Key West, exposing a plot to grab Cuban land and to lay waste the people involved. Cussing and tasteless sexual inneuendo included.

Awesome book - can't wait til the next one comes out!
fast read, exciting, sexy, funny, totally Evanovich!!
Another hit for Evanovich!
Not as good as the Stephanie Plum series, but a fun read. If you are a Nascar fan, you will enjoy.
Excellent read!
Alexandra Barnaby roars into Miami Beach in search of her missing brother who disappeared while she was talking to him on the phone. High speed car chases, a search for a sunken treasure AND a NASCAR driver that is good at revving a woman's engine.
I just love Evanovich as an author! She's created some new characters, so I can't wait to see what's next!
This book offers the a quick pace and likeable heroine. Barney Barnaby is not the NJ mall girl that Stephanie Plum is, but she's got Stephanie's pizazz and certainly holds her own. The first in what looks to be a promising series. Full of humor and twists.
Another light, humorous Evanovich novel. Fun and engaging!
Another funny Evanovich novel. Light, fun reading!
A laugh out loud, great read. I was sorry to finish it. I have enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series, but this stand alone story was even better!
"Just because I know how to change a guy's oil doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life on my back, staring up his undercarriage." From the word go, Evanovich delivers her usual goods, albeit in a different vehicle. After 10 Stephanie Plum novels, each more successful than the last, Evanovich introduces Alexandra Barnaby, aka Barney.
Barney hails from Baltimore rather than New Jersey, but she's from the same slice of working-class life as Stephanie; she donned mechanic's overalls in her father's garage during summer breaks from college. Her younger brother, Wild Bill, shares her passion for cars, and now he's disappeared from Miami, along with NASCAR star Sam Hooker's boat, the Happy Hooker.
Evanovich doesn't mind showing her romance roots, as Barney and Sam start off snarling at each other; as any reader can tell, they have to team up (a) to save Bill and (b) to enjoy delicious sex. As in the Plum books, plot takes a back seat to riffs, roughups and dialogueand in the last lies the book's most notable distinction. If Stephanie bids fair to be New Jersey's Dorothy Parker, Barney is Baltimore's echo of Robert Parker. Conversation is terse and coded, full of sexual innuendo, with a high premium on toss-away lines uttered under duress. Despite the amazing quantity of physical jeopardy, there's little tension; it's all about hanging out with Metro Girl and NASCAR Guywhich may be just what millions of Evanovich fans will want.

Fast action, usual excellent humorous writing. Pick it up and you won't be able to put it down. I love Janet Evanovich's writing.
Evanovich does it again. I can't wait for the next one.
A light read to tide over the Stephanie Plum fans until Evanovich's next book in that series.
Another of Janet's fun, entertaining and easy to read novels. Loved it as usual!
I liked this new series with Alexandra, it's somewhat similar to the Plum series. There seem to be toned done characters of Lula and Grandma Mazur but it's still a good read. Great author. :p
Typical and fun Evanovich. Good Read!
Quick read, very entertaining.
I was very disappointed in this book. The characters were all parallel to those in the Stephanie Plum series (only with less substance) and the humor was pretty much nonexistent. I grew a little bored at the end with the technical descriptions regarding the cannister. I became bored and lost among all the boat and car mechanical descriptions as well. In comparison to the Stephanie Plum series, this novel was overall more action-packed but lacked in fun and witty humor.
The first in a fun new series by Janet Evanovich. Alexandra Barnaby roars into the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother "Wild" Bill. Leave it to the maverick of the family to get her involved with high speed car chases, a search for sunken treasure and Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver who's good at revving a woman's engine. Engaged in a dedly race, Bill has borrowed Hooker's boat and sailed off into the sunset, just when Hook has plans forthe boat. Hooker figures he'll attached himself to Alexandra and may run into scumbag Bill, and better yet, maybe he'll get lucky in love with Bill's sweetie pie sister.
If this was taking place in New Jersey you'd be looking for Stephanie Plum and her cast of crazies. Not to worry, Evanovich has supplied a new cast of characters guaranteed to delight.

Miami, the Keys, NASCAR guy, funny book. Fast read.
Another good book by a great author!
4 stars...........very good
This was my first Janet Evanovich book and I must say that I loved it! Nice writing style...some parts LOL funny. I can't wait to read her other series.
This book was quite literally laugh out loud funny. Great characters, a lot of action, a wonderfully fun read!
This book reminds me of a Clive Cussler book- if Dirk Pitt were a girl! I liked it a lot. It has a little of the charactor of the heroine from the One for the Money series too. A fun read!
I really enjoyed listening to this book and so did my sister. Now it's time for another woman to enjoy it. The action is believable, fun and sexy! I live in FLorida so hearing about Miami and the Keys made it even more interesting. It should be made into a movie. I haven't read too many Evanovich books but now I want to read or listen to more!
I listed to this on a 6 hour car ride and it had me laughing andon the edge of my seat the whole time!! The narrator of he story does a great job reading the story & does all of the characters voices perfectly just as you would imagine them!! The Heroine of the story Alex Barnaby (aka "Barny") goes on a mission to find her brother "wild bill" when he dissapears after a disturbing phone call to Alex at 2am... (reminding me alot of some of the stephanie plum missions) Alex is alot like stephanie, wild, ouspoken independant shameless and unapologetic...her conincidenal sidekicks on the mission: a famous nascar driver, a gay guy (and his little doggy brian) and a couple of cuban women from little havana in florida. Stephanie plum fans will def love this...plenty of laughs, guns, explosions...even a bomb..and of course just enough light romance thrown into the mix for fun... absolutly loved this and will definitly be reading(or listening to) the next one "Motor Mouth"
Evanovich is moving into the fast lane with Metro Girl, a thrilling, high-octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver who's along for the ride.
"Wild" Bill Barnaby's dropped off the face of the earth and big sister Alex heads for Miami, Bill's last known sighting, on a harrowing hunt to save her brother...and maybe the world. Alex blasts through the bars of South Beach and points her search south to Key West and Cuba, laying waste to Miami hitmen, dodging Palmetto bugs big enough to eat her alive, and putting the pedal to the metal with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker. Engaged in a deadly race, Wild Bill's borrowed Hooker's sixty-five-foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset...just when Hooker has plans for the boat. Hooker figures he'll attach himself to Alex and maybe run into scumbag Bill. The race to the finish is hot and hard.

Janet Evanovich is becoming one of my favorite authors to listen to. Light, funny, entertaining. Enjoyable.
Metro Girl was good, but she sure can't hold a candle to Stephanie Plum & company.
I liked it, but this book isn't nearly as much fun as the Plum series.
A fun adventurous story that I really enjoyd. I actually laughed out loud. Truly an enjoyable novel.
I found this book to be predicatable and much less entertaining than most of Janet Evanovich's books.
Enjoyable, easy read. The characters are interesting and well written in Evanovich's breezy style. Not quite as much fun as a bunch of Plums, but still worth the time.
In the style of her Stephanie Plum novels, this book introduces a new cast of zany and lovable characters. This was a perfect summer read - entertaining and funny.

Very light reading. NASCAR Guy gets a bit tiresome in spots. The only thing is I do want to read the next book. Not as much as a new Stephanie but, to see what other stuff Barney and Sam can get into on the NASCAR circuit.

I think this is the first book I read by Janet Evanovich. I thought it was funny in spots, but I wondered about the situations the characters get into. Yes, I know it's fiction, but a little too over the top in some parts. When I got the next in this series, Motor Mouth, I couldn't even finish reading it because it was so ridiculous.
It's Janet! What can I say. Really fun stuff.
Typical Evanovich, easy, entertaining
For me, this book and its sequel were only okay. I liked them and enjoyed reading them, but compared to the ever entertaining Stephanie Plum, the main character was a little boring! Still a decent read though, but don't expect it to be quite as good as the Stephanie Plum books.
Fun beach book (or wish-I-were-at-the-beach book) set in South Beach, the Keys with a couple of quick trips to Cuba.
A cute and funny book.. evanovich is a paragon!
this is a funny book another great one from janet evanovich
I really enjoyed this one. It starts a little slow, but stick with it, it gets a lot better! Similar tone as the Stephanie Plum novels.
I went out before I left for vacation and bought this book, I cannot believe I waited so long to read this one! I read this book on my 7 hour car trip with my mom, sis, my 6 year old daughter and 2 dogs! I survived the trip and this book kept me entertained!! I cannot wait for Motor Mouth to come out!
A fun book for the beach!
Alexandra (Barney) Barnby roars onto the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother, "Wild" Bill. Leave it to the maverick of the family to get Barney involved in high-speed car chases,a search for sunken treasure, and Sam Hooker,a NASKER driver who's good at revving a woman's engine.
This is the beginning of her new series. Fun story with good characters. This is the book that comes before Motor Mouth.
A rolicking good time with a heroine nearly as endearing as the author's Stephanie Plum. I picked this up when I was stranded without my current book-in-process, and found it to be a quick read (just a few hours) and worth the time! Give it a whirl.
Of this series of pre-Plum books, I've liked this one the best. Still a beach book, though.
Such a great book. It is laugh out loud funny!
Enjoyed all the characters. Looking forward to more from this author.
Another great Evanovich read with a spunky female lead. If you like Stephanie Plum, you'll love Alexandra - her friends call her Barney. Add in a missing brother (Wild Bill) and a hot NASCAR driver (Hooker), missing gold, chemical weapons and sunny Florida shores and you have a page turner that will chase away your winter blahs.
Alexandra Barnaby girl detective. Enjoyed this as much as I did as of the Plum series.
female bounty hunter and her adventures
Another great female character !!
A good book. Much better than Rocky Road to Romance. More comparable to the Plum series.
Evanovich is just a wonderful author. You laugh out loud and she keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This is a very quick read - you can't put it down. It is the perfect summer beach book. Full of suspense!!
Too funny!
Good read
Fun , quick read. My girlfriends and I call it 'book crack' ( you get hooked and can't stop until it's all gone.)
Loved it! Would love to see Metro girl and Stephanie Plum team up!!! Classic Evanovich.
Great book. Fast paced.
Fantastic!
Fast and Fun book!! Set in Miami and the florida keys. It is an exciting, easy read.
Similar to Stephanie Plum books. Almost as funny but still a great read. Alexandra Barnaby goes in search of her brother who disappeared after a mysterious phone call. Things just get hairier after that.
There are a couple of colorful characters in this book also.
Janet Evanovich is a great writer!

Janet Evanovich is a great writer!
It's okay, but not one of her better books. I suspect the "Barney" series is going to be a little more technical than her other books. This one focuses on sailing and scuba diving.
NASCAR and sailboats. How could you go wrong? A good read.
great read, but then all of her books are good!
If you have not read Janet Evanovich, I recommend you start with One for the Money. I love this funny family. It makes me laugh outloud.
No Stephanie, Morelli or Ranger...but still a fun read!
A fun book to read in the famed Janet Evanovich style of her Plum books. This was a great book to fill in between "Plum" series books
Evanovich starts a new series in this book, down in Florida. Just as enjoyable as the Plum series.
Typical Evanovich without Stephanie Plum.
A fun romp. I was laughing out loud by the end.
I enjoyed this book, like all of Janet's books you won't be dissappointed.
This was my first Evanovich read and I LOVED it.I promptly went out and started reading the Plum series. This was one of my favorite books I have read in a very long time. Great, quick, fun, funny, fast moving, action-packed book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the second book to be released!
Don't read in public unless you want to be caught laughing out loud!
Love everything this author writes.
Fun, laugh out loud funny, not as good as the Plum books, but definitely worth it.
wonderfull as allways
Light easy read.
I don't know why I waited so long to get on the Alex Barnaby bandwagon--Janet Evanovich is witty and now I understand the hype! This is the start of a to-die-for series! Great characterization, fun innuendos, fast pace...this was a read-in-a-single day, couldn't put it down, romp through Florida that immediately made me want to pick up the sequel.
If you like the Stephanie Plum novels, you'll enjoy this one too!
I was given this book by a friend but really have no interest in reading it so I would like to pass it on.
Great very quick moving
Awesome.. evanovich is super ! I love all her books..
Fun reading. Janet Evanovich is very witty.
Not her best. The story was her usual fun, witty style but the characters weren't quite as wacky.
A little different from the "Plum" series, but still a good read.
This amazing story.Alex also known as Barnaby finds herself in Miami searching for her brother who is in trouble. She finds help in a Nascar man. It is fast pace, hilarious. If you are a Stephanie Plum fan - you will love Alex.
Alex gets caught up in something because she's trying to take care of her brother. With the help of a NASCAR driver she befriends, they rescue her brother from the bad guys save the girl and find the gold. Fun fast fantasy read...set in Miami and the Keys.
not the best evanovich book written
This was a great read. It was very funny, with action and spice. It would make a really great movie script. Evanovich...as always !!
Janet Dvanovich is moving into the fast lane. A thrilling,cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a wonam with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, ver sexy NASCAR driver who's along for the ride.
It's not Stephanie Plum, but it's definitely Janet Evanovich! Another captivating read!
good quick read..kept me interested.
Pretty good new series.

Fast, funny read.
Another good book by Janet.
Very good and funny. I love Janet's adventures!
Nice light book.
Another fun, thrilling read from Janet Evanovich... if you like her Stephanie Plumb series - you'll LOVE this book!
This is the first J.E. book I read and, even though it took me a while to get into it, it had some truly hilarious moments. I became a fan after reading this book!
Non-stop action and a lot of laughs. A very fun read.
Enjoyable read. It's fast and witty like most of Evanovich's books. I look forward to more books in this series.
EXCELLENT
Wonderful story.. must read!
not as good as the Stephanie Plum books but still worth reading for something lite, quick and fun.
Evanovich never disappoints. A good summer read.
A riveting page-turner. I enjoyed it very much!
A quick and satisfying read. Some of the characters' actions are a little unbelievable and there are a couple of coincidences that seem a little too convenient...but these are forgivable flaws because the story is so engaging and the characters are really likeable and fun.
I love Janet Evanovich. It was a fun read! I didn't think it was as good as the Stephanie Plum series, but it was still good.
This is a funny mystery with some twists. Our bookclub read it as a fun summer read and it was a good choice.
Thoroughly entertaining, a lovely novel & a fun way to spend time with one of my favorite authors. You won't regret letting Alex Barnaby and her crew into your fantasy life. Living vicariously through Janet Evanovich's characters & plots of danger leaves you wanting to read more.
Another great adventure from Janet Evanovich. The book was captivating till the end.
I thought this was just as good as the Plum series some laugh out loud moments, a cute book.
The first in Evanovich's new series. A great read.
Another fun Evanovich read!!!
awesome!
Cute book,it was snowing out so finished real quick love her writing.
Another funny Evanovich book.
Too funny, and sexy, and interesting from cover to cover. Loved the characters. Another Evanovich hit!
I read this after reading the Stephanie Plum series, and I found that this book follows the same formula...romance, crazy comical plots, funny secondary characters, and a horny male main character. I don't have a problem with this at all. In fact, this formula works great in the Stephanie Plum series, but I wasn't too crazy about it in this book. It was alright, but maybe I'm just too stuck on my Jersey girl (like me) Stephanie and her hot men, lol.
I am a fan of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, and Metro Girl is right up there on that level. Very good book, I look forward to reading the sequel, Motor Mouth.
Full of adventure
As always another great book
Wonderful humor and adventure!
Fun read.
Alexandra (Barney) Barnaby roars onto the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother, "Wild" Bill. Leave it to the maverick of the family to get Barney involved with Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver who's good at revving a woman's engine.
Engaged in a deadly race, Bill has "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five-foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset...just when Hooker has plans for the boat.
The pedal will have to go to metal if Barney and Hooker want to be the first to cross the finish line, save Bill, Hooker's boat...and maybe the world.

Another hit for Evanovich. New characters but the same sense of humor. A great light read.

Cute story.
Buckle your seat belts. Number one New York Times bestselling author, Janet Evanovich, is moving into the fast lane with Metro Girl, a thrilling, high-octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver whos along for the ride.
"Wild" Bill Barnaby's dropped off the face of the earth and big sister Alex heads for Miami, Bill's last known sighting, on a harrowing hunt to save her brother ... and maybe the world. Truth is, Alex has been bailing her brother out of trouble since they were kids. Not that Bill's a bad sort. More that he acts first and thinks later. Unfortunately, this time around, Wild Bill will be Dead Bill if Alex doesn't find him in time.
Alex blasts through the bars of South Beach and points her search to Key West and Cuba, laying waste to Miami hit men, dodging Palmetto bugs big enough to eat her alive, and putting the pedal to the metal with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker.
Engaged in a deadly race, Wild Bill's "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset ... just when Hooker has plans for the boat. Hooker figures he'll attach himself to Alex and maybe run into Bill. Maybe Hooker can salvage what's left of his vacation. And maybe Hooker'll get lucky in love with Bill's sweetie pie sister. After all, Hooker is NASCAR Guy. And NASCAR Guy is good at revving a womans engine.
The race to the finish is hot and hard, taking Alex and Hooker into international waters, exposing a plot to grab Cuban gold and a sinister relic of the Cuban missile crises. Creative cussing and sexual innuendo included.
