My daugther has been going to a homeschool art class all year at Michael's. She has learned all different kinds of drawing. She has really been enjoying it as she loves art.

So, someone from corporate decided obvioulsy that none of these classes were needed anymore. They are getting rid of all including beading and lots of others. The only one they are keeping are the Wilton cake decorating. Undoubtedly because there is a big name attached to that one.

I am very disappointed as is my daughter.

Do you know if this is all locations or just your area?

That's sad but I'm sure it has something to do with money.

I believe it is all locations but not certain. The teacher said that corporate wasn't making enough money off the classroom. Seems to me making any money from a few participants is better than the room sitting there empty, but what do I know?

I would think that in the bigger picture, getting kids interested in making crafts and helping them experiment and create with the various materials available has the potential to create lifelong crafters which in the end should make much money for Michael's....if it's all about money.  But what happened to giving back to the community?  That's a shame for your daughter. :-(

The classes also bring customers in to the store.  We can never get out of there for less than $10!  We moved to a new city w/o a Michaels, but visit in the bigger city.  Today we went to Hobby Lobby for 5 cheap things, and got more than that and spent $40!

Are they stopping all the kid classes, or just the HS'ing ones?

Ah, it appears their Kids Club Saturdays are changing to "The Knack Factory" free family events.  Here's their calendar:

Perhaps they are just switching things around a bit?

I checked with the teacher when I went back to pick up dd. It is at all stores. All classes except for the cake decorating and the Saturday kids thing will be discontinued.
