Microserfs is based on the culture of early Microsoft and is a story about some young, GenX programmers who are searching for lives. It is hilarious and captures the early dot-com boom of the '90's, esp. the computer-centric, youthful culture of silicon valley. Very amusing read if you've worked in the tech industry.

A cutting edge high tech book about programmers.....circa 1993. It made me nostalgic for dial up internet and America Online. Written in an intelligent scatter shot format, with an intense focus on the minutiae of daily life, it is filled with subtle romance. Socially awkward people struggle to find love in the midst of binary code.

WOULD READ AGAIN. A+++++++++++

Microserfs provides a hilarious and enlightening glimpse into the world of both Microsoft and Silicon Valley startups in the early '90's. Because of the immediacy of Coupland's writing, it's like looking at a Polaroid taken during that era.
