This was my least favorite book in the series but still a must read if you are a fan of Jack Mac and Ave Maria. I felt like the author tried to cover too much time in too few pages so I had the impression of being rushed along.

A mother grows up and changes as her daughter grows up. This book reminds me what it means to be a mother, loving her child and letting her find her own path in the world. It reminds me that one of the hardest lessons in parenting is how to let go and accept that your child is no longer a child.
Like the other Big Stone Gap novels, this is a warm and realistic story about families, about mothers and daughters, and about coming to terms with life. It's a contradictory mix of joy and sorrow, the difficulties of holding on and of letting go. Trigiani creates wonderful characters and has an absolute gift for finding exactly the right words.
