If you know the books of Sid Fleischman you'll appreciate the special humor it takes to win that award. This is a funny book with very serious intent. The characterizations are full and believable. And Millicent, the heroine, has all sorts of quirks, problems and insights that even the not-quite-so-intelligent-as-she will enjoy.
A very interesting look at what it might be like to be what my old school used to call "severely gifted"--imagine being a little awkward compared to kids your age socially, but intellectually 6+ years ahead! This book is a lot of fun.
