Miss Silver comes to Stay Author:Patricia Wentworth The original book published 1948: "Everyone in Melling was terribly interested in what would happen now that wealthy James Lessiter had returned to his ancestral home. Some whispered that even after 20 years Rietta Cray would still want to marry him. Nobody guessed she might murder him. Not until the butler found him dead at his writing desk, hi... more »s head dented with a poker and Rietta's raincoat soaked quite red. Only Miss Silver could prove Rietta innocent - or guilty." Maud Silver, private enquiry agent, is everyone's favorite spinster-detective. From her Edwardian hair style to her beaded shoes, she is the very model of a governess, which indeed she once was. Now she has taken on the much more challenging occupation of private enquiry agent (what we would call a Private Eye). Armed with stubborn British common sense and an iron will to succeed, she is one of the best at tracking murder, as memorable as the finest creations of Agatha Christie.
I think this is what students of this genre would call a "cozy."« less
