I'm abot 4 chapers into the first one (Library Murders. I'm njoying hte writing style and the quirky librarians, but I'm just not digging the main character- Helma

Anyone familiar with this series.... does she warm up and lighten up? Ihate giving up on abook if I'm sorta enjoying it, but I also don't liek to read books where I don't like or "get" the main character.

TIA !

I felt the EXACT same way Sam :)  (surprising huh?)  I've got book 2 here that I'm going to try. If I feel the same after book 2 I'm not sure I'll read the rest.

I'm starting to get a little more into it....  but I need some humor or romance thrown in too :)

A little romance does seep into Helma"s life eventually. She always remains a little stiff and uptight, but I grew to love that about her. I've read the first nine books in the series, and I'm awaiting #10 which is on it's way from PBS. Hopefully you will enjoy the series if you stick with it.

I agree with Ellie, she's always stiff and formal, and she has been warming up as I read through this series.  I loved the first one though, her anal lifestyle is hilarious!  Isn't that the stereo-typical ideal of a librarian?  That's the humor of it, I'm afraid, if you don't think Helma and her wild and crazy friend amusing, I think you won't like the rest of the series. And I'm not sure I like her as much as she becomes warmer.
