Molly Author:Charles Perkins Molly was a puppy when Charlie's father brought her home, but being a St. Bernard, she was already big and beautiful, with wise, wistful eyes, clumsy feet, and the protective instinct that made her eventful life a saga of that unswerving loyalty which led her ever deeper into a sea of troubles. This moving and nostalgic story is Molly's biograph... more »y, written with fierce partisanship by her young master and reflecting, through the clear gaze of childhood, the life and characters in the small town where Molly grew up.
For Molly was into everything. Being bred to the snow, she took her turn on the iced slide and helped pull the toboggan; in summer she went to the swimming-hole with the gang and took her place on the baseball diamond - not just to retrieve the ball but to play centre field! She had an uncanny sense of danger which was her glory and her undoing, for even asving little Syd Pine from drowning did not expunge her "crimes" committed in defence of Charlie.
It was Sergeant Taylor of the RCMP who rescued Molly by recruiting her for the Force and took her and Charlie on patrol into the Blackwater country to ease the terrible wrench of parting them.
Charles Perkins has written Molly with love and gentle humour and without a trace of sentimentality. No one who has owned a dog - or wanted to own one - should miss reading Molly.« less
