My review: This is a true crime book. I love true crime and read as many cases as I can.. This book made me sad and I really felt sorry for Mary Brown to have undergone such a horrific tragedy only to have the guy released and have to relive it all over again and wonder if he was going to come back and finish the job. I also think that Tom Luther is a low life and should have never been allowed to go free the first time.

this book was amazing. Such detail.. i could feel the horror his victims went through.. and cried several times throughout the book.
I couldnt put it down once I started reading it. Truly, one of the best true crime books I have ever read.

Interesting account of the investigation and eventual apprehension/conviction of serial killer Tom Luther. The author is a journalist by profession and you can tell he did his research. In fact, if anything, the book could have used a heavier hand in the editing as it includes details that don't really add to the overall story and is repetitious at times. That being said, it was a good read and this edition even includes a 2013 update regarding several of the people involved in or impacted by Luther's crimes, including Luther himself.

While convicted for at least one murder, an assault, and a rape, there is strong suspicion and some evidence that he has many more victims who will never be identified nor see their day in court. This book is an absorbing account of the investigation that also delves into the lives of Luther's social circle and describes the impact of his crimes and of the investigation on the victims, their families, and the detective conducting the lengthy investigation. It is appalling how our laws and legal procedures can be twisted to subvert justice as they attempt to protect the rights of the accused.
If I'm not mistaken, this was Jackson's first book. I would be interested in reading more books by this author assuming the editing improves.
