This book starts off well, showing images of Arab-American life post 9/11. The plot quickly decays, becoming predictable and melodramatic. The ending, while giving nothing away, was slightly different than I imagined, however the narrative was completed in such a way as I felt cheated (although my mother, who also read it, stated, "I guess that is how it is in life,") I needed to read this for a book club or I would not have finished it.

This is one of the best "novels" that I've read in a while. I'm more of a non-fiction type girl, but loved this book.

Khashoggi spins another page-turning tale with a topical theme: an Arab father kidnaps his American children because he disapproves of the American way of life....A delicate subject sensitively explored

Story of a woman in a seemingly good marriage who comes home one day to find her husband and children have returned to his home country of Jordan. As she works to find a way to be reunited with her children, it tells the story of other friends in her life, the lives of the husband and children in Jordan, and how the perfect marriage is impossible but compromise might not be so bad.
