Sckipture Lesson -- Psalms LXXXIV And CXXII. HYMN. Great Creator, who this day From thy perfect work didst rest; By the souls that own thy sway, Hallowed be its hours and blest; Cares of earth aside be thrown, This day given to heaven alone. Saviour, who this day didst break The dark prison of the tomb, Bid my slumbering soul awake, Shine through all its sin and gloom; Let me, from my bonds set free, Ki. se from sin and live to thee. Blessed Spirit, Comforter, Sent this day from Christ on high; Lord, on me thy gifts confer, Cleanse, illumine, sanctify; All thine influence shed abroad, Lead me to the truth of God. PRAYER. Blessed be thine holy name, O thou faithful God and Father, for the dawn of another holy sabbath-day. Thou hast in mercy granted us a measure of healthful repose, by which our bodies and spirits have been refreshed, after the toils and cares of the past week. We rejoice, 0 Lord, that for a little season all worldly business and labours may be put aside, and that we may spend one day in sacred duties and delights. May it be no vain thing for us to call upon God, the living and true God. While thousands are falling down to their idols of wood and stone, and thousands more are worshipping their unknown gods, the imaginations of their own hearts, or are yielding themselves to the service of the world and the unrighteous mammon, we rejoice that we are coming to the God who, at sundry times and in divers manners, revealed himself to his faithful servants, and who, by his word and Spirit, will manifest himself now unto all those who diligen...« less
