I need to start loosing weight as the doctor told me my bp is a bit high so I have come up with this plan and could use encouraging pms. I have 25 books that I want (are the Amish books that are on my wish list) and have put them in the order of number of pages in each book. Every time I hit that number -take for example, the first two books are a bit over 110 pages each so for every minute I walk on the treadmill or exercise, I "earn" a page in that book so for the first two, I have to exercise 110 minutes to be able to purchase these books for me to read and enjoy. Then to earn the next book, I have to exercise an additional 40 minutes and so on. The biggest book I have on my wishlist to work toward is 400 pages.
I am in the same boat as you! I'm just 10-15 pounds overweight, and my BP is borderline high. The key is try to vary your routine and find exercises that you like to do. I like walking, so soon I will be walking with a backpack full of weights (milk bottles full of water). I will also be going to local state parks to do my hiking too.
But, while the weather is too cold, I use a stationary bike. I read while I do the bike (TV doesn't interest me anymore). Also, I got a prescription for my bike, and it was covered by my Health Savings Account (section 125)! I paid no money for it. I just turned in the receipt with my prescription to my employer.
If you like, listen to music or radio while you are working out. I listen to talk radio while I walk.
Also, be careful about using video games to "exercise". If you don't get your heart rate up enough, the weight will not come off, and you will get discouraged. My rule of thumb: "If you are not sweating or breathing heavy, you are not exercising."
