I have read a number of Jane Green books, and although she is one of my preferred chick-lit authors, this isnt one of my favorites by her. It was a bit too predictable, and at times I didnt care for Libby, the main character.
Libby Mason is a fairly successful publicist, living the singleton life in London. She falls hard for her no strings attached friend Nick, who is gorgeous but poor. After the inevitable parting of the ways, she is wooed by exactly the catch she has always dreamed of one if the wealthiest men in England. There are a few problems though; hes rather stodgy and not very handsome. But Libby is so blinded by how much he adores her and his luxurious lifestyle that she turns a blind eye to many of the troubles in the relationship. Soon she is planning a wedding while wondering if she is doing the right thing.
My major complaint with this book is the shallowness of Libby. It seems as if the only thing she was concerned with was money and social status. I also didnt like how she was a chameleon girlfriend, changing her personality to please the current boyfriend. There were some interesting secondary characters, but the entire book was all about Libby and her search for love with the proper billionaire, and I found it tiring at times. The ending of the book is obvious from page one, so that also took away some of the pleasure of the book. Read Jemima J or Bookends by this author. Those books were much better and had some more serious undertones than this one, which was pure fluff.

This book was a very easy read. I would say that it was pretty typical. You could tell what was going to happen - but it's a good one for the Subway or for the beach. I didn't really like the main character but I liked a lot of the other characters.

Well, what can I say. This book had a slow build up that lead to an anticlimactic ending. I fought with myself to finish this book and the only reason I finished it was because I hate leaving books unfinished. With each chapter I finished I hoped the story would get better, yet it never did. The worse part about this book was that I knew what was going to happen and I knew how it was going to end. The only thing I loved about this book was it's ending.
The main character was (Libby Mason) a woman in her mid twenties who constantly came across as childish, self absorbed and immature. Throughout the whole book I found myself hoping she would grow up and finally develop into a woman with substance and not a money grabbing whore lacking in character.
The second main character was Nick, a struggling writer around the same age and as handsome as he is nice. He's the kind of guy a reader falls in love with, except for the fact you can't see why he's with her. When they break up you hope that Libby will use this as a chance to grow, except low and behold she doesn't.
Not surprising, Libby meet's another man, Ed. Ed is wealthy yet an old man at heart. From their first date she's not attracted to him, except low and behold she continues to date him because of the gifts he buys her. He's a sweet man except there's no sexual chemistry whatsoever. Not surprising she still sleeps with him hoping to like it, yet she finds herself angry at him because she doesn't orgasm. I mean OMG even after you find out he doesn't sleep around and has very little experience she still doesn't find him endearing. As time passess she finds herself feeling smotherered by his love and adoration.
As I said before the ending is not a surprise and it's a lovely ending except that it's with Libby and I wished against all odds that the two end up together.

mr maybe is a cute book about what women in todays world face when it comes to life, love, the prusuit of happiness, and wether or not money is what really matters. Libby is 27 in PR and has her own place. she is smart, funny, and has a wonderful group of friends but she has never had a long term relationship and she is a ever changing person when it comes to relationships with me, everytime she tries to get involved with a man she changes herself so that he will love her. but that never works. she is always trying to make mr right now in to mr the one. then Nick comes along and sparks fly...they have fun, they laugh, the sex is amazing for both of them, and he cares about her. but he is on the dole ( like welfare in america) and he isnt working and he is a unpublished writer who is very political and not her type at all on paper. Libby always wanted to end up in the situation where she could marry rich, live in a whole house not just a flat (apartment) wear designer duds all the time and not have to work. enter Ed, the name says it all about this guy, he is unattractive, not funny, no friends really of his own, no social life, is atleast 10 years older than Libby, and the sex is beyond bad.....but he is loaded and more than that he prsues her! he wants to give her everything money can buy and he wants to set her up in his giantic mansion! but he drives her crazy, aside from his bank accounts he doesnt make her laugh, he doesnt make her happy. then nick comes back into the picture and Libby is reminded how good it can be to laugh with someone to want to kiss someone.

This is the first book I have read by Jane Green. I thought it was quite funny at times. The thing that got me was how realistic the main character is. Some of things she did you're like "what is she thinking!?!" but at the same time people do dumb things like that for love and happiness all the time! I'm sure there are people who will disagree with me but I really think Green hit the nail on the head with Libby.

Usually I like Jane Green, but I didn't like the way this book turned out. Like an aloof commitment-phobe would really do a 180 just in time to save the heroine from a loveless marriage. Please!
I enjoyed this book - it's the perfect comfort read - along the lines of a "bridget jones" . Engaging, easy read.

It is no secret that I like Jane Green, she is one of the authors that after reading the first book of hers I promptly picked up as many of the others as I could get my hands on to try to complete the collection. Mr. Maybe for me was not her best work. It was not a bad book but it just did not seem to have the usual flair that I have come to expect when reading a Jane Green.
There are several points in the book where it just seems to drag on and there are things that just do not seem to be needed. Libby Mason as a character, well I felt I could not connect with her much. I even found myself wishing her best friend in the book Jules would do just that.

I love Jane Green's writing style. She makes it so easy to get inside Libby's mind. It's an easy, fun read.

Very good book..another Jane Green hit! About a girl who has to choose between a poor boyfriend who she has a great time with or a rich man who wants her for his trophy wife but can buy her the world.
This was the first Chick lit book I ever read and led me to the rest of Jane Greens and about a zillion other chick lit titles, and I've never looked back, this is a wonderful book..

Jane Green wrote one of my favorite books- Jemima J. Ever since then- I've enjoyed her books- but none as much as that one. I read Mr. Maybe last night and it was pretty good.

Libby then meets Ed who has a TON of money and can offer her the life she's always dreamed about. But they're no compatible in a lot of ways.
So pretty much it's every girl's dilemma. Do you take the hot guy who has no money, or the not so hot guy who has a ton of money?

To Libby Mason, Mr. Right has always meant Mr. Rich.
