I just posted a copy of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  There are numerous members wishing for this book.   But for some reason, my copy (2009 trade paperback, printed in the USA,  with book-club questions in the back) has a different ISBN from any of the ones on the club wish list, so it's not being requested.   Is there anything I can do about that?

There are 4 copies of the book you posted in the system. Sometimes people want a certain edition of the book. They might want it in hardcover, large print or audio format.  I'm sure your book will get requested in time.

Gavia - Have you tried posting it in the Book Bazaar? I know there's a thread for books with different ISBNs.

I'm sure a book as popular as Guernsey wouldn't last long in your shelf.

Yes, I know there are four copies in the system.  My question is: why?  There are - counting only paperbacks - a total of 646 wishers.   Hardcover, large print and audio versions are specified separately, as far as I know.

When a person puts a book on his wish list, he is offered all the existing editions in the specified format  (e.g., hardcover, paperback, etc.).  At least, this has been my experience.  You can wish for any or all of them, and  I'm sure lots of people do wish for all of them.  For some reason, this particular edition (and the other 3 copies ) is not being offered to wishers.  My guess is that the four copies in the system were probably posted after the wishers put the book on their wish list, and were not available for wishing at the time.   But they are there now, and the wishers don't know about it.   So there are four copies going begging.   I think that's a glitch in the system.    Somehow I don't believe that the four copies in the system, that are not among those being offered to wishers (and therefore the wishers probably don't even know they exist), are so different that they somehow are set apart.

I think most people wishing for a book that has lately been a best-seller will be happy with any edition that comes along, unless there is something really different or weird about it.  I know I would.

Thanks for the suggestion, D.G.  I didn't know there was a thread for different ISBNs in the bazaar.   I'll try posting it there.

When you posted your book an email would have went out to wishers of the other versions that a similar to wish book was posted so they would get notice.

This situation was very common on the Twilight books. The movie cover version would languish with copies available while the other versions were heavily wish listed.  I have also noticed a similar thing happen with some versions of books that have been made with the study guides in the back for book clubs.

You can also find the wish listed versions that have the same binding and add a tag to them "also available under ISBN XXXXXX" so that its brought to attention to the wishers on the Wish List.

Well, what do you know?!  My book has just been requested!  I didn't even have to list it at the bazaar.   I wonder if it was someone on this forum?  smiley

Most likely...I knew that book wouldn't last long. :)

I have those similar to WL email disabled...I'm not saying those 600 wishers do too but I know a lot of people get annoyed when they get those emails and the book is gone by the time they click on it so maybe people have gotten into the habit of not paying attention to them.
