I've been a member for almost a year now and in the past week or two I've ended up with 4 X's on my Transaction Archive.

One X is because I ordered and cancelled a much-posted book from myself just to generate a label.

One X is because  I realized after being asked for a book that the book was no longer in postable condition.

One X is because I had been offered another version of a WL book the day before and hadn't cleared my shelf yet.

One X is because I ordered books from two people and then realized one of the people had both books. The person I cancelled on hadn't yet accepted my order.

Will I really get dinged for this. I really want to be a good PBS member and have been so far. It's just that these all happened in such a short time frame.

Carolyn,  I'm not sure what the policy is re cancellations, but I think someone from the PBS Team would contact you about it if it raised a red flag.  Then you would have the opportunity to respond and explain..

Here's what I was told when I was a new member with the same concern...red x's are not a concern, it's more of a concern with the broken red checkmark symbol (which occurs if you send or receive a damaged book or the wrong book).  Even that would only be a problem if a person was repeatedly sending or receiving books marked as RWAP.

I've heard that an excessive number of cancelled transactions will raise red flags. But, four? I wouldn't worry about it. I don't worry about it and I have more than 4 cancelled transactions on my own record. Things happen all the time to everybody.

I do know that the system is set up to do automatic e-mail notifications if you start to reach some internal "limit". I received one once when I overused one of the widgets. I limited my use of it and that was the end of it.

I'd imagine that cancellations work the same way. If you just have way too many, you will probably receive an automatic e-mail notification telling you so. However, it's not going to be at 4. Probably not even at 40. Cancellations are minor. Unless you're receiving those notifications, I'd ignore them.

Thanks! That's a relief.

Especially since one of them I cancelled from myself and another was a repeat of another version of a book I had just gotten a WL offer for the day before and I hadn't yet cleared my WL of the alternate versions.

I would only worry if you were constantly cancelling book orders you've made or requested from you.

The main things to worry about are not letting requests time out and RWPs or an unusually high amount of lost books.

I cancel stuff all the time for various reasons. No one's contacted me about it... I wouldn't worry. :)
