Following are the details of a book I sent recently:

  • 9/25/2015 6:50 AM - Enroute - JERSEY CITY,NJ
  • 9/26/2015 10:02 PM - Electronic Shipping Info Received - PORT CHESTER,NY
  • 9/27/2015 11:24 AM - Enroute - DALLAS,TX
  • 9/28/2015 11:16 AM - Delivered - HOUSTON,TX
  • 9/28/2015 2:31 PM - Delivered - HOUSTON,TX
  • 9/28/2015 5:05 PM - Delivered - HOUSTON,TX
  • 9/28/2015 5:29 PM - Delivered - HOUSTON,TX

How is it possible that they delivered the same book 4 times?  (I also thought it a little odd that the electronic shipping info was received in my local P.O. the day after it was marked enroute in another town about 40 miles away.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the pkg went to different postal branches within Houston before it went to correct one.  If you have the tracking number, you might want to check it on the USPS site.  It will give a little bit more info than PBS.  It will give the zip code of the multiple "deliveries".  If it's not the same zip, then it went around to multiple branches before the correct one.  Or perhaps multiple employees scanned it in, not knowing it'd already been scanned?  Who knows?

Shouldn't pick up that 'delivered' scan until the route carrier is at your mailbox...branch scans are different, and likely to be noted as 'arrived at unit' 'sorting', etc.  So yes, check at UPSP.com or with your local branch to see if there's more information available.

The electronic info thing is normal. USPS has always been wonky with the time stamps on that. Not sure why a package would get a delivered scan 4 times, but something has been off with USPS scanners lately, there has been all sort of weird stuff going on. I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure they got the book :)
