Not as good as some of this authors others books, I found it moved rather slow. But it still is a good romantic mystery.
Hotel heiress Regan Madison is flirting with danger. She agrees to help a journalist friend expose Dr Lawrence Shields, a shady self help guru. Attending one of his conferences they are asked to make a 'murder list' of people that they would like to see removed from their world. Then Regan forgets about her list, until the people on it start turning up murdered!

Honestly, one of the only books I've ever hated, but I struggled through to the end. I've been very disappointed with Julie Garwood's contemporary romance/thrillers. With the change in time, it seems she's lost the complexity of story and character development. This is the worst.

When Regan Hamilton agrees to help a journalist friend expose self-help guru Dr. Lawrence Shields by attending his seminar, she never dreamed that an exercise listing all the people who have wronged her would cause those people to die. Great mystery! Fast reading

Regan Madison's friends talk her into attending a seminar given by Dr. Lawrence Sheilds, a well-known psychologist. They are determined to prove that he caused the suicide of a woman after conning her out of her savings. While at the seminar, Regan participates in an exercise where she writes down every person she wants out of her life. She jokingly titles it "Murder List". While leaving the seminar during a rainstorm, Regan is attacked by a man who chases her. She loses her folder containing the list but makes it to the safety of her car. Days later, Regan's office receives a photo of a murdered man...someone who was on her list.

Detective Alec Buchanan has plans to join the FBI; but his boss has assigned him to protect Regan until his time with the department is up. This assignment is a punishment for talking back to his boss. But as far as punishments go, Alec is enjoying his time with the beautiful Regan.

This is the fourth romantic suspense book from Garwood's Buchanan-Renard series. The author takes her time setting up the suspense story in this one. But this gives us time to get to know Regan and her pals. When it becomes apparent that the killer is sending Renard the photos of his victims, the suspense ramps up. Alec's only role is to act as Regan's bodyguard, but he is actively working on the investigation in order to protect her. The romance between the two develops slowly. Once they finally give into temptation, it's worth the wait.

I would have liked if the author had given us enough information to figure out the identity of the killer. Unfortunately, we are not told who was behind the murders or the reason Regan is the target until the final pages. Otherwise, this is a solid romantic suspense novel. My rating: 4 Stars.

This book was okay. I devoured Mercy and Killjoy, this one simply did not have the UMPH that the other two had. I had to read it, because a Buchanan was in it, I did like it, it just lacked a little magic. Don't buy it, get it from the library. If you like the family, it's worth the read. I am going on to Slow Burn, which I hope the magic returns.

Good combination of romance and mystery. What would happen if a list of people whom you disliked fell into the wrong hands and the people on it began to be killed, one by one?

I have always loved Jule Garwood's books and wasn't sure I would like the "new" books she started to write. I was wrong her FBI books are excellent. They have it all, mystery, laughter, low key romance, and excellent characters that keep reappearing in other books.

This book is part of the Buchanan sibling series. All have been very good books. The Buchanan books are: "Heartbreaker" (Nick), "Mercy" (Theo), "Murder List" (Alec), "Slow Burn" (Dylan), & "Shadow Dance" (Jordan). There is also an intersecting character story involving the brother of Michelle from Theo's story. "Killjoy" comes after "Mercy".

It was a stupid seminar exercise to begin with, but Regan Madison certainly never expected it to result in murder. While helping her wannabe investigative reporter friend check out a sleazy con man, Regan winds up participating in Dr. Shields' "make a murder list" exercise. After placing names of people you despise on the list, you are supposed to burn it. However, Regan is attacked while leaving the hotel and her list ends up in the hands of a psycho killer who decides to make it real.

The FBI has already drafted Chicago detective Alec Buchanan, and he is more than happy to turn in his resignation. However, Regan's wealthy and powerful older brothers request protection for her and Alec gets the assignment. Although he's not supposed to interfere with the actual murder investigation, Alec can't resist turning over some rocks.

Regan Hamilton Madison is perfect. Shes gorgeous ("a knockout with those full, luscious lips, to say nothing about the soft curves and long legs") but doesnt seem to be aware of it. Shes rich (her family owns a hotel empire), but as head of her familys foundation, she spends her time giving money away. She even drives an old car. She doesnt have a boyfriend, but she does have a stalker, a psychopath bent on killing her. Enter Alec Buchanan, a smart detective who just happens to be perfect himself. Hes gorgeous, "scruffysexyhe had impeccable manners, was obviously well-educated, and had a sense of humor." And he doesnt have a lover either. Regan draws up the titular murder list at the request of a guru/messiah who preys on "rich but lonely vulnerable women" (its supposed to be cathartic) and who is the villain of a subplot. Although Regan is much too nice to want to murder anybody, she whimsically makes a list of the people shed like to remove from her radar screen. When the people on Regans list begin to die, though, the plot moves into high gear. By that time the reader is pages ahead of the clearly telegraphed plot developments, and even the real mysterieswhy Regan? who is the psycho killer?are solved by the reader long before the characters see the light. Bestseller Garwood (Killjoy, etc.) has her shining moments, but she serves up a predictable woman-in-peril suspense novel this time around.
