Are you looking for a new series to try?

Check out the books by Joanne Dobson:

Quieter Than Sleep

The Northbury Papers,

The Raven and the Nightingale

Cold Pure and Very Dead

The Maltese Manuscript

It is about a university English professor who works her way up in the academic world from a working class background.  She not only finds herself working in a small New England school, but taking care of students and stumbling into murder.  Lots of well written supporting characters.  Also mentions classic literature.  Everyone I have recommended this series to love it.  I have also read these books a few times and will not part with my copies!

Please-check it out!

Yes,

They are in a sense there is no graphic blood or violence.  It takes place in a small town where everybody knows everyone else.  There is a little romance, but it builds slowly through the series.  No pets or laugh-out loud funny scenes.

The characters do have some drama, but not in the CSI/Law and Order kind of way.

Hope that helps!

I would like to recommend THE DOG LOVER'S MYSTERIES by Susan Conant.    These "cozies" will appeal to both dog and mystery lovers.  They are the authors answer to Lilian Jackson Braun's THE CAT WHO series.  I just finished the DOGFATHER, which was a hilarious parody of the GODFATHER.  A fast and fun who-done-it!

Other titles are, A NEW LEASH ON DEATH, PAWS BEFORE DYING,  RUFFLEY SPEAKING.

I have several series that I adore:

The Deborah Knott series by Margaret Maron. Set in NC, it is authentic in place and its characters.

The quilting series by Earlene Fowler.

The Gregor Demarkian series by Jane Haddam.

The Posadas County, NM series by Steven Havill

The Absaroka, Wyoming series by Craig Johnson

The Sheriff Dan Rhodes series by Bill Crider

The Sarah Kelling series by Charlotte MacLeod

The LLoyd & Hill series by Judy McGown

The Kincaid & James series by Deborah McGown

The Mary Russell series by Laurie King

I would recommend the Passport to Peril series by Maddy Hunter.  These are fun, laugh out loud cozy mysteris.  Another favorite is the Catered series by Isis Crawford.
