What are your favorite christian bands/singers?

Is there a song that every time you hear it, it really lifts your spirits, or touches you in some way?

I love Jeremy Camp, Jeremy Riddle, Sanctus Real, Kutless---probably a few more that aren't coming to mind right now.

My favorite song right now is Sweetly Broken by Jeremy Riddle.

My favorite is Casting Crowns. I also like Hillsong, Steven Curtis Chapman, Third Day, Jars of Clay, Delirious, Todd Agnew, Nicole Mullen, Caedmon's Call, Mercy Me.....

I'm sure I've left some out. I like a good mix of groups.

The ONE SONG that REALLY lifts me up and moves me is Complete by The Parachute Band.

That was a good song.  I remembered one other song that I really like-- Made to Love by tobyMac.  My kids love the Portable Sounds CD by him.  It's pretty good.

  1. Love Casting Crowns! They have a song that has a part where it says something like, "You say my sins are as far away as the east is from the west. Jesus, how far is the east from the west? From one nail-scarred hand to another" and that just gets me in the heart every time I hear it.   My son got me hooked on Toby Mac- he got to see him in concert and says he is awesome live also.

You can try one of these stations for listening online as well:

This one is contemporary, but softer:

This one is contemporary, but a bit more of a rock and roll type sound (great for teens):

air1.com/

K-Love is online?  Well so it is....

I had forgotten all about that.  I've only had high speed internet for about 8 months or so.  Prior to that I only did the very bare minimum online and didn't view the internet as my friend. LOL!!

Thanks for the reminder.  I'm going to crank up some tunes!!

Recently my sons, Jordan and Josh, recorded a song, which Jordan wrote, with their worship band, Phoenix Awakening.  I've been listening to that a LOT, and, of course, nothing moves a mom like listening to her son sing to the Lord! Jordan sings and Josh plays bass and I love all the other "kids" in the band.  (Most of them are in the 20-25 age range.)  The song is the first 8 verses of Psalm 86, which he put to music.

I still love to listen to Second Chapter of Acts and Keith Green (I'm old!), but I also love Hillsong, The Waiting (Hands in the Air is a favorite of theirs), and many of the bands my kids listen to.  I'm awed by some of the deep lyrics these youngsters come up with!

My all time favorite artist is Rich Mullins.  I saw him in concert about a month before he was killed, and it was the most incredible concert I've ever been to.  His lyrics have a depth to them that few songwriters can match.

My first Christian band love was Petra from when I was a teenager - saw them in concert a bunch of times in high school and college.

As far as current artists, I like Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Third Day, MercyMe, Steven Curtis Chapman.

Michael W. Smith is also kinda in a class by himself.  We were joking at music practice (praise and worship team) the other day that he could possibly make a career out of this music thing someday.....

Oh, I just remembered another song that I really love.  It's called Knees to the Earth by Watermark.  I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Wow, I have so many Christian singers I love to listen to. Mark Schultz, Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant, Nichole Nordeman, Point of Grace, Chris Tomlin, Todd Agnew.

Have you ladies heard of the Go Fish Guys. They are a Christian group that sings kids music. My family loves them, and my boys sing and dance to their music. Their great because their music is not the typical kids music, I actually enjoy it.

I listen to Klove all the time.

Michael W. Smith would have to be my hands down all time favorite.  I saw him  at a Billy Graham event a few years back and he was just incredible.  His song "Place in This World" has a very special meaning to me, it was a great comfort in a difficult period of my life.

If I am listening to Christian music, it's usually more Praise and Worship type as I find that very soothing.  My Mom used to listen to a lot of old time gospel and hymns so I like those, too.  I haven't been up to speed on most of the new contemporary artists.  I will check out some of the artists mentioned.  I did like the Knees to Earth song, thanks for the link!  :)

Oh, we used to like to go to Carman concerts when we were younger, too, but I haven't listened to him in a while.

Revelation Song -- one of my favorite worship songs that we sing at church.  It came into my mind last night, and so I thought I'd pass it on to you guys.

Desiree, I'd not heard of the Go Fish Guys.  I'm going to look them up now.

I'm a Jeremy Camp fan, too.  I also like Leeland.  Awesome lyrics from such a young guy!

I'm a bit more of a rocker than most of you here, it seems.  Some of my modern favorites are:

Disciple

Kutless

Pillar

Fireflight

Flyleaf

Barlow Girl

I also like a lot of metal coming out these days in the Christian scene.  But, don't expect to find most of these in a Christian bookstore:

Stryper (yes, they are back!)

Saint

Seventh Power

Rob Rock

Letter 7

Lordchain

Borders

My all time favorite is MercyMe.  I have seen them in concert several times and they are fantastic live.  I other favorites include Casting Crowns, Point of Grace, 33 Miles, Jeremy Camp, John Waller, Steven Curtis Chapman, Phillips, Craig & Dean and Chris Tomlin.

The song that is my favorite at the time is "Top of My Lungs" by Phillips, Craig & Dean.  It is off of their new CD and is a fantastic song.  Below are the lyrics.

Words of worship
Rise like a river within me
Thoughts to express are so many
I wanna bless You, God

Cant be silent
I think of the mercies You show me
My lips begin overflowing
Great is your Love.

Such gratitude,
For all that You've done,
Jesus to You,

CHORUS:
At the top of my lungs
I will sing Hallelujah!
You're the One who saved me,
The One who gave me
This life I live
Forevermore ! Forevermore!
At the top of my lungs I will sing Hallelujah!
I'm not ashamed.
I'll praise Your name.
Let the whole world know
I love you Lord.
I love you Lord!

You are worthy
I join the song of creation
That rings out across ev'ry nation.
Let my heart be heard.

I need you so.
I don't care who knows,
From the depths of my soul,

CHORUS

Let my love be loud.
I sing a joyful noise!
All of my days
A joyful noise!
I lift up my voice!
I lift up my voice!

CHORUS

Chris, I really like rock, but since I listen to most of my Christian music on the radio on KLove, most of the artists I like are a bit softer, because that's what they play.  For those who like their music a bit louder, and like to listen online, there's  this website.

Brenda, I am VERY familiar with the Christianrock.net web site.  I have listened to many hours of music there and post semi-regular on their forums.  I also operate a small message board called Christian Hard Music www.christianhardmusic.niceboard.com .  On top of that, I help moderate the Christian Metal Realm www.christianmetalrealm.niceboard.com .  I stay on top of what comes out on the mainstream Christian labels, and I go WAY underground to find some cool indie stuff as well.
