"SUPERB...I'LL HEARTILY RECOMMEND ON MYSTIC LAKE TO ANY WOMAN... WHO DEMANDS THAT A STORY LEAVE HER IN A SATISFIED GLOW." - The Washington Post Book World

Annie Colwater's husband has just confessed that he's in love with a younger woman. Devastated, Annie retreats to the small town where she grew up. There, she is reunited with her first love, Nick Delacroix, a recent widower who is unable to cope with his silent, emotionally scarred young daughter. Together, the three of them begin to heal. But just when Annie believes she's been given a second chance at happiness, her world is turned upside down again, and she is forced to make a choice that no woman in love should ever have to make...

On MYSTIC LAKE is the story of one woman, but it speaks to all of us - to anyone who has ever had to find the courage to choose between what is... and what could be.

Since I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, Kristin Hannah's books have a special place in my heart. Having said that, Hannah has a real voice that speaks all the thoughts and feelings we might have when life goes along with nothing happening, only to twist and turn the way that lives can. I highly recommend any book written by Kristin Hannah...an excellent writer.

A poignant, tender, and true story of love, loss, passion, and the fragile threads that bind families together.

Annie Colwater's only child has just left home for school abroad. On that same day, her husband of twenty years confesses that he's in love with a younger woman. Alone in the house that is no longer a home, Annie comes to the painful realization that for years she has been slowly disappearing. Lonely and afraid, she retreats to Mystic, the small Washington town where she grew up, hoping that there she can reclaim the woman she once was?the woman she is now desperate to become again.

In Mystic, she is reunited with her first love, Nick Delacroix, a recent widower unable to cope with his grieving, too-silent six-year-old daughter, Izzie. Together, the three of them begin to heal, and, at last, Annie learns that she can love without losing herself. But just when she has found a second chance at happiness, her life is turned upside down again, and Annie must make a choice no woman should have to make. . . .

On Mystic Lake is the story of one seemingly ordinary woman, but the novel speaks to all of us, to anyone who has ever had to choose between what is . . . and what could be.

An excellent book. Never take anything for granted in life because you never know how long you can hold on to it. I couldn't put the book down. You must read this.

Beautiful read. Annie's only child leaves for college and her husband is in love with a younger woman. She moves back to Mystic Lake and is reunited with her first love, a recent widower with a grieving, too-silent, six year old daughter. A great story of healing and hope.

Kristen Hannah is a wonderful writer. This is one of her earlier ones about a woman whose husband leaves her without a warning and how she puts her life back together again. It's a good, easy read!

Hannah pulls out all the stops in this one. She dumps in crumbling marriage, empty-nest syndrome, long-lost loves, neglected children, traumatized children, loss of a parent, homelessness, substance abuse, suicide, mental illness, and pretty much every hanky-dampening situation in the romance writers' playbook.

In other words, her fans will eat this up.

It all starts when Annie Colwater's husband announces, apparently out of the blue, that he has fallen in love with another woman and wants a divorce. He drops this bombshell moments after the couple has put their 17-year-old daughter on a plane for London.

Shocked and confused, Annie returns to her hometown on the Olympic Peninsula, to spend time with her father and to try to reorganize her life. Looking for something to fill her days, she agrees to help her first love, Nick, with his six-year-old daughter, so traumatized by her mother's suicide that she is nearly catatonic.

Things build pretty predictably from there, and even the "surprise twist" at the three-quarter point is something the long-time romance reader will have seen coming, though Hannah does manage to dodge one cliche bullet in the resolution.

The ending drags somewhat as Annie tries to decide between new-old love and old-established love, between comfort and adventure, and between doing what's expected of her and doing what she really wants.

Annie Colwater puts her daughter on a plane to England for the summer she has always been a wife and mother. She is sad at her daughters leaving but thinks she willhav more time for her husband. Instead he confesses that he is in love with another younger woman. She had missed all the signs and is heart broken and not sure how to get over this. It is a great book as most of Kristin Hannah's are.

Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite Authors. With that being said "On Mystic Lake" was another beautifully written book.

Being women we are expected to do so many things for our family. We go with the flow of life. We are there for our husbands and our kids. We make sure that our family is okay and they have what they need. We love them and support them.

"On Mystic Lake" stood out to me. The storyline was so well written and you felt you really new the characters of the book. There was a message in this book for all women. The message to me was....While raising your children and loving and growing with your husband. Don't forget to love yourself and find meaning in your life.

I hope whoever reads this books really enjoys it. I read this book in 3 days. Kristin Hannah is an amazing writer!! Happy Reading!!

Annie Colwater has been married to Blake for 20 years but as their daughter, Natalie, leaves home for a trip to London and then onto college, Blake confesses that he is in love with a younger woman. Annie decides to go home and visit her father. She meets up again with her first love, Nick Delacroix, a recent widower, and his young emotionally scarred daughter, Izzy. Together they begin to heal but soon her world is turned upside down again. I found this book to be an emotional roller coaster and the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. It's a story of a 2nd chance at life where cleaning up the first one can be a bit messy. This is an early book from Kristin Hannah and you can see that she is winding up for some of her better stories. I love to watch how a writer's voice transforms and this is a good place to start with Kristin Hannah. If you like chick-lit, then you will enjoy this one!

There is that moment when your world is tipped and it forces you to take a look at your life and decide whether you go back to that life or you flip it and find your true self.

Annie's perfect life is tipped and she gets to see what is on the other side. Does she return to the life she had or does she go for the life she could have?

This is only my third Kristin Hannah book after FIREFLY LANE and TRUE COLORS, which I loved. I also truly enjoyed this one, but did find it formulaic and it seemed much like a Nicholas Sparks story (which I also love). If i have any complaint, it was that I thought this one so predictable. That being said, I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good love story. Just don't look for the depth and richness in her later characters. after all, this was written in 1999. Fun read and quick.
