Enchanting myths of the Hawaiian goddess Pele and her sister Hiiaka, Maui the demi-god and numerous heroes and heroines of Hawaiian mythic lore. Some of the stories in this book inspired my lecture and eventually workshop and lecture tour on the "path of the heroine" - the heroine's journey. I find Hawaiian myth almost as rich as Greek myth - and W.D. Westervelt tells these stories in a very clear, readable manner. A real joy.

This is a collection of the stories of the gods of Hawaiian lore. It also explains why some of the places are where they are, and how the place names were given. Great book (easy to read) for your plane ride to Hawaii! Mahola!
