I had a request for a book and when I pulled it out of my inventory, I panicked.  You see, the book was a library discard and I thought the condition was too poor to send.  (I have since read more about the acceptable and unacceptable conditions of books on this site.)  I did not see an option to PM the member until after I cancelled the transaction.  THEN I PM'd the member, told her about the condition, and she has told me she would still like the book.  How can I make this happen??

I currently have no credits, but I have sent out 4 books... so I'm waiting to be credited.  That could take "forever".  When my wishlisted book was ready for me today, I denied it, because the site insisted that I have to act now and I don't want to buy credits today.  What now?  Add the book back to my wishlist when I have a credit?  Wait for the credit & hope to remember to search for it again?

Thanks!!

-Charity

OK, for your first issue, I would tell the member to add the book to her wish list. Then you can post it to her directly. Or, add it back to your shelf, then tell her, so she can come to your bookshelf directly and order it right from you.

You have a couple of choices for the wishlisted book.  You can add it to your reminder list, and then when you have a credit you can put it back on your wishlist.  To get credit faster you could use either PBS postage or Delivery confirmation to get an instant credit the next time yo.  You pay a fee for this (18 cents for Delivery confirmation and something like 43 cents for postage).  With Delivery confirmation as soon as your book hits a post office which scans it you get the credit.  With postage you get it as soon as it's marked mailed.  If you don't want to buy a credit this might be an alternative while you're low.  Best of Luck!

Once you've earned some credits, it's a good idea to keep a few for WL offers.

For the first issue - was it a WL book you posted or the only copy in the system? If not, then her order has already been passed to the next person with the book available and there's nothing else you can do. If it was a WL book, or the only copy in the system, you just repost it and she will be offered the book again.

For your second issue, if you turned down a WL offer, it will have been removed from you WL, you will need to re-wish it you will be at the end of the line :( But since you are pretty new here, it should be a fairly short line. As others have mentioned, it is often good to keep a couple of credits on hand for WL offers. I know, that is really hard when you are new! I think I bought 40 credits from other members at first, now I have more than enough to cover my WL books. I'll buddy you a credit to have on hand in case you get another WL offer before your books get marked received. You might also want to use one of the quicker methods of getting credit - PBS postage gives you the credit as soon as you mark it mailed. PBS-DC gives you credit as soon as it is scanned.

Welcome and happy swapping!

Mel

Thanks for the help (and the credit!)!  I was able to find the wishlist from the other member, and request the book I refused.  I love the friendly atmosphere of this site:)  Thanks everyone:)

Haha, don't worry.  I won't abuse your advice about waiting.... but I know how anxious I would feel on the other end.  I think that is why I reacted so quickly.

New question:

What is this bazaar everyone is talking about and where do I find it???

It's in the same list as this one (Questions about PBS), just scroll down a bit more, and there's something called "Book Bazaar." You can go in there and offer specials (the only place on PBS where 1 book doesn't equal 1 credit) like buy 1 get 2 free, or find others doing specials. It's also a place you can list your damaged books and ARCs (advanced reader copies.)
