I just received a book from another member. The member used DC and the date shown on the label is July 7, 2008.  TODAY"S  DATE.  From North Carolina to California in less than 1 day. How is that possible??????

Did they use PBS postage? That is just the date they said they'd mail it by. You can print with a date in the future. They could have printed on Friday thinking they wouldn't mail it until today, and then got it there early. I don't even bother entering that as the post mark in the system since it often isn't the date mailed.

I would bet that your media mail book was (upgraded to first class) dropped into a first class pouch rack bag and flown to WA.

and on a holiday weekend? First Class is generally 3 days and this was overnight (so to speak as P O doesn't sort on Sundays, as far as I know) from 2000 miles away.

My sister works for the PO, she used to work Sundays all the time until she got upgraded.

As far as the Window unit goes (Customer service area) but a lot of the times there will be one or two clerks in the back throwing mail on Sunday for Monday delivery. I work at a Distribution Plant and we work 24/7, 365.

We do go to Holiday staffiing (minimized staffing) or reduced staffing for a Sunday.

I didn't know that anyone worked in a post office on a Sunday. Interesting!

I received a book last month - can't remember exact date - but I received it two days prior to the date of the post mark.  Thought that was weird!

I've had books cross the country in three days (Pennsylvania to Washington State) and then had another take 10 days to go 13 miles down the road, one county away.
