Yup. done it for many years now. Usually a few other PBS members do it as well :)  Never not won and love it totally!

We did it as a challenge a few years ago in a literature class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been tossing around the idea of trying it again, but I worry that my free time isn't quite enough to allow for 50,000 words that aren't work reports or notes for class. smiley

I've tried it a couple of times and not succeeded.

Both years I really was too busy to make the time.

I think I'm in better shape this year though; thinking of trying it again.

I've done it for the last two years. This year I'm finally going to win. That's a promise! :)

Have you participated before or just considering it?

:)  It's 30 days of writing love..LOL You have to write 50,000 words in 30 days on a novel you've never written before, any fiction genre.  Or you can be a rebel and do nonfiction or short story anthology. with a 50,000 word total.    It's in november.  People also meet in person in lots of areas, Write ins they are called. You meet, talk, help, encourage, drink coffee(or tea or anything) and write. They also give out swag (stickers, badges and other stuff).

I also will buddy anyone that needs it. Help you with coming up with plots or working out an idea.  1,800 words each day during november and you should win.

I have tried to do it about 6 times now, haven't won a single time yet!  LOL  I WILL be trying again this year though, just can't give up when I have so many stories that just have to be told!

It's all about being stubborn! Making time to write and making yourself write.

I'm so busy this semester, but now that I've finally talked my friend into reading for me, I can't just back out. TT^TT

"Or you can be a rebel and do nonfiction or short story anthology."

Xengab--is this common?  I'm intimidated by the novel format, but I've been wanting to try NaNoWriMo.  I think that short stories or nonfiction would be a better match for me.

Getting more and more common.  One of my Write-In buddies last year was writing her travel memoirs.  I know someone else was doing short stories more novela's 10,000 words each. Others did ten 5,000 word short stories. There is a forum just for the Rebels.  You can sign up to the site and look around.
Since you just need to submit the word count, the writing can be nearly anything :)

Hmmm.... Thanks, Xengab.  I may just have to give it a shot this year. :)

I'm getting so frustrated with NaNoWrimo!  It seems like I'm either in the process of moving/or definantly moving during November, that I can't get into it that month.  I try to write what I can but don't succeed.  I'll be in transit from England to Hawaii with a short 21 day stop in NY.  Hopefully next year I'll be all settled with no surprises and I'll be able to participate.

Rachel, you might want to try Camp NaNO or one of the other month long challenges (ones in Jan, Feb, April, June, July and August) :)

I might do it. Depends if my course work lightens up. If it doesn't, there's no way I'll have enough time. I already have an idea though.

I'm like lonelyfilly as far as NaNo goes - I've tried a bunch and never crossed the finish line, although I did begin things which I finished later. Once I got 35,000 words into a draft, which was awesome!

I expect I'll be back for the craziness. It's addictive!

Now if only my third main character would show up.

I don't think I'm going to even bother this year. Since I started library school I haven't been able to win. Maybe next year when I'll finally be done with school.

James- This free e-book (PDF) has a lot of tips for new (and veteran) NaNos: NaNo for the New and the Insane

I still refer to it for inspiration and tips.
