I was a bit disappointed in the film.  It was a huge undertaking, and IMO, it fell flat.  I liked the lead actor (the one who played Gogol) and the actors who played his parents, but I was somewhat disappointed in the plot (not as much depth as I would have liked) and I felt there was a lot left unsaid.  I thought Maxine was ill-cast (Jacinda Barrett) but Mo was well-cast.

Guess I just really like Juhmpa Lahiri's writing style, and was expecting more from the screenplay. :)

I find her writing full of texture and beautiful imagery... I admit that the movie felt a little flat to me, too. I was familiar already with the actor who portrayed Gogol, and in my ideal world, I would have liked a fresh face. There were a few scenes in particular that just failed to live up to my inner cinematographer ;) But I did like the overall tone of the film.

Boy, you hit the nail on the head.  I was expecting so much more, based on the trailer. :/
