I found this book to be very enjoyable. Set in Detroit during WWII, this book is rich with details of the area during this time. Having been born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit myself, it was really cool to be able to picture street corners, public institutions, and my beloved team, the Detroit Tigers, all in an era that I will never see with my own eyes.
But don't be fooled, this book is not a typical history or war story, it includes the fantastical...Golems are being manufactured on an assembly line; witches, shamans, dwarves, and the like are common through the story. I can honestly say that I have never read a historical fantasy like this one. I enjoyed how easily this aspect of the story flowed. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and would recommend it to anyone that has a taste for either history, or fantasy as it will fill your sweet tooth for either!
On a side note, I had a question about a very small thing in the story. I looked up the author on facebook and asked him my question, and he actually responded in a day or two. He was very humble and polite. I was left with good feeling all the way around about this book and this author and I will be looking for more of his work.
