Finding the title intriguing, I took it off the shelf in the cabin where I was staying and entered a parallel world where candy bars lead to rapes, white sugar is analagous to cocaine and where government work camps are highly recommended by the author. — What a ride! — Though ... more »I agree with the premise that refined sugar is terrible for your health and may even influence mental stability, the levels to which this author takes his conclusions are mind-blowing. Hippies? The result of too much sugar. The brutal murder of an elderly woman? Soft-drink induced (and not the fault of the murderer... but of a society that allows sugar to run unchecked through the bloodstreams of its citizens). He also blames Hitler's Germany on rich desserts and Bloody Mary's purges on sweetmeats.
Rodale also recommends that children be removed from their homes at age 15 and put in government work camps where they can learn the value of natural food and raise it themselves under the loving hand of the State. Another bizarre suggestion is that there should be mandatory blood-sugar tests used to weed out future criminals. Low blood sugar? Then you're on your way to the Big House... it's just a matter of time before you rape a puppy or eat a baby.
