A Natural History Guide to the Pacific Coast and North Central Baja California and Adjacent Islands
A Natural History Guide to the Pacific Coast and North Central Baja California and Adjacent Islands Author:Dennis L. Bostic With students, I first visited Laguna Ojo de Liebre and several of Baja California's islands in 1969. This study-cruise was a profound and memorable experience. Many students for the first time became an integral part of nature; no longer were gray whales, elephant seals, and pristine salt marshes with attendant bird life something they knew o... more »nly from fading photographs and flickering video-tapes or classroom lectures.
During this expedition, the strong relationship between the quality of the experience and one's powers of interpretation was reaffirmed. Students saw what interested them, what to them was meaningful. In short, they saw what they knew. What was needed was educational materials to assist them to see and interpret what was before them. Thus began the compilation of this natural history guide.... Although the guide is incomplete, I hope it will allay students' fears that scientists and teachers really don't care about helping them interpret what they see, hear, and feel.
