Hi,

I posted a book a while back and was surprised there were no WL. So tonight i did a little digging and have found that a nearly identical version of the book is posted with 4 members wishing for it. I think it's a slight weirdness in the ISBNs, and I'd like to be able to bring it to the attention of the four members wishing it, in case they might be interested in this version. How can I do that?

You can't since we have no idea who those four people are.  I would just post it without an ISBN number.  Happened to me before and I had no trouble with  people not knowing it was there.  It got requested quickly.

Hi Kay,

Actually, it does have an ISBN, I guess I haven't checked to see how they might be differently numbered. I'll go do that now.

There's no need to repost the book with NO ISBN.

I would advertise it in teh book bazaar. Actually me personally: I would advertise it in my signature because I post a lot.

In the BB you can post it in this thread:

Ok, I figured it out, finally. The four wishers want a Large Print version, I guess...mine's just Regular.

Ah, well done Robin.  From what we hear, sometimes those Large Print editions are not well marked on the book info pages.

Rob, I am curious as to why you think a book (same title/author) with a different ISBN would be an "unpostable" wish list book?

Robin, you did right to check...kudos for that! Always post books by the ISBN, not the title/author. There is a thread in the book bazaar titled something like "Wishlisted books with different ISBNs available" where you can post them, but usually if people have Large Print wishlisted, they want that version only because they need it due to a visual impairment.

Often if you post a book that has a number of copies in the system but there is "some version" with a different ISBN wishlisted, it's going to be a specialty version like a Large Print or an Audio version, or just a different version like hardcover vs. paperback.

Most of the (very few) books I've RWAP'd were because I had a particular version (hardcover) wishlisted, and was sent the paperback version with a totally different ISBN. Yes, it's the "same book" but I'd already read the paperback and decided I wanted a hardcover for my Keeper shelf, so the book I got was of no use to me at all--not to mention that there were a dozen copies in the system, so if I had *wanted* the paperback I could have gotten it at any time!

It amazes me how often people in this "reading" community don't actually READ the rules or even the pop-up that comes up for each and every book you post asking you to verify the ISBN, format, title/author as well as the postability guidelines.

Also if a book has a wish list in a different version, a non-WL'd version will trigger a system generated email to the wishers of the other ISBNs that there is a different version of the book now available in the system. I have lucked into several wish list books that way.

In addition to the suggestions above, you can tag the WL version with your version's ISBN.

ETA - though in this case you're probably right, people are likely waiting for the large print version.

Caviglia, can you explain what you mean, please? I don't know about "tagging"

It sounds like I've been working at it a little too hard, though, by adding various versions of a book to my wishlist, so as not to miss any.

Thanks everybody!!
