From the back cover: Bengal 1939 It's already been a week since Father left, and we've heard nothing. Mother thinks I'm silly to worry like this. She thinks he's been delayed because so many rail lines have been destroyed by freedom fighters. She could be right-but I just have a bad feeling about it... Front inside cover: Now that her older sister is married, twelve-year-old Neela Sen knows their mother will be looking for a husband for Neela. But Neela's heart is stirred more by the fiery talk she overhears about India's freedom struggle than it is by talk of marriage. When Neela's father goes to Calcutta to learn more about the fight for independence from Britain, he doesn't come home when he's expected. Where can Neela go for help in finding her father?
The books in this series have been written by a native or someone that has lived in the country that each book covers. They are all enjoyable to read. They can be used to start a discussion about the topics covered. I recommend them for home-schoolers or anyone interested in different cultures.

It says for young adults--but this is also an adult read if you like books about culture, this is a wonderful, interesting series about different cultures. Well written and even for an adult a great series to get into. Not really written on kid level. each book is written by someone who has lived in the land and so the info is right on, not fiction info.
