How do I add a book to My Bookshelf when I want the status to be On Hold?

These aren't books that should be in My TBR Pile, btw, but books that I would have added to my Books to Repost List until the two were merged.

Hi Ange--

I tested it, and the only way I could find was to post the book as normal, then go to your bookshelf, check the title(s) you want to hold and click the "Hold" button in the "Actions" area.  How you keep a WL book from perhaps getting auto-requested during that process, I'm not sure.

Cheers,

Catt

If you put your bookshelf on Vacation Hold while you post books to your bookshelf...once you put your bookshelf on Vacation hold then follow the directions that Catt posted above and then when completed take your bookshelf off Vacation hold...that should work...because it says that books posted while on vacation hold are hidden so you wouldn't have issues with WL items.

I thought books newly posted while on vacation hold WERE available?

Unless something has changed recently, then yes, Diane is correct.

Books posted AFTER you put your account on "Vacation Hold" are available immediately for request.  The reason is because when you tell the system to "hold" your account, that book[s] was not part of that request. Here is a bit further from the "Help Center:"

I got a request for a book while my bookshelf was on Hold

If you get a request by email while your Bookshelf is on hold, that means:

  • The book was involved in an active request when the Hold went into effect, and therefore was not "hidden" by the Hold.
These are the scenarios:
    • The request was submitted before your bookshelf went on hold, and this is a second or third notification or reminder email
      • check the timestamp/datestamp on the email of the original request for the book
    • This was a Wish Listed book you Posted before your Hold began and the first Wishing Member(s) declined the offer of it
      • When the book finally reaches a member who confirms she still wants it, you will receive a request, even if you put your account on Hold after posting the book
      • A book involved in a Wish List offer is not "on your bookshelf" to be affected by a Hold
    • This book was involved in an active request when your Hold went into effect, and the requestor canceled.
      • When the requestor cancels a request, the book will go back onto your bookshelf.
      • A book that is returned to your bookshelf will not be hidden by any Hold that went into effect while the book was "off your bookshelf" (involved in an active request).

I hope that helps. And by all means, if you learn that something has been changed please post it for us. =)

Cheers! Cali

Unless I am reading this wrong then the last line of the statement below from the Help Center states that books posted while on Vacation hold are hidden.

How does the Hold affect your Bookshelf?

  • The books that are on your Bookshelf at the time the Hold goes into effect will be hidden from requests.

  • This does not include books that are involved in a Wish List Hold or an active transaction.
  • The FIFO order of each book will be preserved during the Hold; it will not "lose its place in line" to get requested.
  • Books that are already involved in an active request will not be affected by the Hold.
    • Any book request that was submitted before the Hold went into effect will not be affected by the Hold
    • Any book request you submit at any time (before, during or after the Hold will not be affected by the Hold.
  • This means that all auto-emails associated with an active transaction will be sent to you as usual
    • You will still get auto-emails asking if you have received a book that is en route to you 14 and 21 days and 25 days after the book was marked mailed by the sender.
    • You will still get "second" and "third" notifications for previously-submitted requests to which you have not responded.
    • You will still get auto-email reminders to mark your outgoing books mailed before the deadline if you have not done so.
  • Books newly Posted to your Bookshelf during a Hold will be hidden from requests.

Cali, what you are referring too are books that were already involved in a request at the time the Vacation Hold was put into place...

Yikes! You're right Christy about that, thank you!  I copied the wrong section there regarding the "Vacation Hold" and *then* posting a book (which still holds) but Grrrr! Sorry about the mix up there. =)
