Mary, I signed up. I've never done this before. How long til we reveal our books? Time frame to send books? I have to read mine first. Though I'm sure it won't take long. When does the game play begin?

Anne, just follow the thread over on the games forum.  Mary will post when the swap is closed and then when she has approval from the Games Mod to start play.  She'll randomize the play order of the participants and will PM the first player to let them know the swap's started and it's their turn.  First player picks anyone they want to to reveal a book.

So, you'll reveal your book only when someone PMs you and asks you to reveal it.  Could be right away or it could be near the end of the swap.  Once we've moved thru the play order, Mary will post that we're done and give the timeframe for mailing out books, usually a week or two after the end of the swap.  There's no way to tell how long the swap will go on, depends on how much stealing there is of books and how long people take to respond to PMs that it's their turn to reveal or their turn in the play order.  I've been in swaps that take a month or two to move thru all the players and some that are over in a week or two.

You don't have to do anything until you get a PM asking you to reveal or telling you it's your turn.  If you reveal your book, then you just find the next name in the play order and PM them that it's their turn.  If it's your turn and you steal a book, you PM the person you stole from and tell them it's their turn again.  If it's your turn and you want someone to reveal a book for you, you PM and ask them to reveal.  If you ever get lost or don't know who to PM next, just post that in the thread and someone'll help you figure out who you need to PM.

Thanks Sarah. So when its my turn, I can either (1) reveal my book or (2) steal a book that's already been revealed? Sounds like fun!

When it's your turn you ask someone ELSE to reveal their book or you steal someone's book.  Books are allowed 3 steals so, if it's your turn and you see a book that's already been stolen twice, you can steal it and it'll be yours.  Just remember that someone can steal the book you've chosen too.  If they do, you get another turn to steal someone else's book or ask someone to reveal their book for you.  It's lots of fun!

You don't reveal your book until someone asks you to.

edited to correct myself.  I should NOT watch Survivor and try and post at the same time.

No if it's your turn you do not reveal your book.  You ask someone to reveal a book or you steal a book that's been revealed.  You only reveal your book if someone PMs you asking you to reveal.  If they PM saying it's your turn that's when you ask someon else to reveal.

Gutsy woman joining an erotica swap for your first one.  They can get pretty cut throat.

You'll have a while to read the book. There's over 30 players signed up already and with erotica books there'll be a lot of stealing. Then you'll have an additional week after the swap is over to mail.

with 30 players (and it looks like we're going to have a few more than that) and 3 steals, a swap usually takes about a month between play beginning and ending.  then there's usually a week to mail.  a specific mailing date will be posted when the swap is over (which is when the last book is revealed).

if your book goes out early, it's nice if you can mail it before the mailing deadline (especially if the swap is taking a long time), but that is not required.

if you just watch what's going on, you'll probably catch on quickly enough.  but if you're ever confused, ask in the swap.  people will be happy to help!

Another question.....when it is time to send the book to the person who won it, do you post it to their WL or just send it to them?

still confused here lol

Hi Anne.   When you play in a swap, the person who won your book(s) sends you their address, and you mail it to them, with Delivery Confirmation.    You do not post it to them.  Don't forget, you will also be winning a book in the swap.   So, you will be getting a book mailed to you.  Equity.    It's all good.    I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have.   We were all new to swaps, at some point.

Oh, but then we all get our deposit credit back, so it is acutally a book for book trade, not a book for credit trade, is that the right way to describe it?

Thanks,

Anne

Yep that's right, as soon as the other person receives your book they post in the thread and the host has your credit returned to you, and vice versa you would post a message when you get the book you won.

Hope that makes sense :)

Yes, it's a book for book trade.  The credit deposit you made is in case someone doesn't send their book out.  If they don't then the person who was to receive it will get their credit instead.  You post in the thread when you've mailed out and the DC number on the book.  When the other person gets your book, they post that they got it and then the hostess will request your credit returned to you.
