Hi.  I live in Lawrence, Mass and I hate my school system.  I really want to homeschool my 8-year-old son who is in 3rd grade.  How do I go about beginning the process to do this?  I keep reading different things on-line, but I'm a little confused.  Can anyone help me?  I'm on AOL or AIM right now if anyone is interested in helping.

My youngest daughter Nancy became disgusted with our PA school system for her 8 year old daughter. Thinks there is too much emphasis and pressure to pass those state achievement tests. So she has recently begun homeschooling. She suggested I tell you what she found most helpful as a newbie:

Check out this site:

http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/directory/Beginning.htm#Start

There is TONS of information on that site. Take as long as you need and read through it all, especially the "benefits" the "how to get started" sections, the FAQ's and everything else you can find out on that site.

She also offered I pass on her email addy to you if you want to ask anything more about how she gathered info and began homeschooling.

PM me if you'd like that

Welcome to the club Stephanie! I'm still pretty new myself, but the best advice I have for you is don't try to do everything at once. It can be very overwhelming. I was just making it harder on myself. Now I take it one step at a time, with a lot of deep breaths & praying & we're getting there. :-)

Ruth.

Thanks for the awesome site!
