Many of us are well aware that image uploads and displays have often been very slow in recent weeks. To fix this, the site programmers have been working on installing a new image server. On Sunday night (actually between 1 and 2am Monday) the site was shut down to install the new server.

The initial results of the new server are very encouraging and I am seeing a big improvement with image displays. Are others also noticing a significant improvement or difference with image displays and uploads?

Yes, I'm seeing an improvement.  It was taking a long time for images on my WL to load but they seem to be faster now.

To make sure they're not in my computer's cache, I just tried your WL to see if the images would load fast and they did.  Within 10 seconds they'd all downloaded instead of the minute or two it was taking.

Much improved. And I haven't gotten a Gateway error at all today!

is that what was causing the gateway thing?

I noticed the change right away.  Very nicely done.

I also just a few minutes ago noticed when I scroll through my bookshelf, there are some red  W's on there kind of like the ones on the "To Be Read" listing.  Anyone know what that is all about??

I placed my account on vacation hold yesterday because I reached my postage budget for the month.

I noticed that I have 3 or 4 of those red Ws on my bookshelf. Hover the mouse over them and they read much like this:

"This book is on another member's WL, but the member does not currently have the balances to Auto Request it. The book will be offered to the member if s/he is not on vacation."

Coolio. In the past year or so, I've often put my account on vacation hold (to spend down credits, because we're actually going on vacation, health problems, etc.). And I've been hit with surprise WL requests when I've removed the vacation hold. It's nice to see that. I can see what's coming and plan for it accordingly. So far, I'm really liking this.

ETA: And, so far today, not one Bad Gateway error and the books images are loading quickly.
