Who's ordering one?

Me, I dunno. I'll wait for reviews. I hadn't even been using my Paperwhite, until the other day when I added Koreader and files full of epubs....now I like it again. Except for the big white spot of light on the bottom of mine. But of course, I am not using it as a Kindle. So why bother getting a new one LOL. The text is very dark and clear (using a side loaded font) and now I have folders and subfolders....so until I find out if the new Paperwhite can be hacked, and the light is more even....it's a no go for me.

I'll give it a pass. I've got another one I'm looking at. Not having a MicroSD card slot is something I miss in my current Paperwhite more than I realize I would. So the one I have will do for a while.

Yes....no SD card slot and only 2gb....not what I am looking for. The new Kobo Aura is far more appealing to me, though I'd like to wait for a sale. $149 is pretty steep, to me.

Not me.  Not interested in a Kindle or anything else from Amazon.

Me standing in Best Buy looking to replace the broken Nook:

Kindle Paperwhite- same dimension as Nook, paperwhite, $119

Nook Glowlight- same dimension as Nook, glowlight- $119

Nook Simple Touch- $79 and the realization that the very rare times I was reading at night and didn't have a light available were probably times I didn't need to be reading anyway. It wasn't a $40 feature for me.

I do admit to having a crush on the NST.  Still love my Sony though!  When it dies, I'll have a hard time choosing between another Sony and a NST.

Gotta tell ya- I love my NST. I bitch about one part of the shelving feature but probably only becasue I had the original N1 with a better shelving feature. And when I catapulted it across the floor and broke the screen, I trotted on over to Best Buy and bought another one because I had to have it that day.

Ya'll understand.

The NST is awesome (especially rooted). I wanted to try the lighted one...but Tanga cancelled my order. Crossing my fingers BN will come through with a new model this fall!

I suppose there is still a chance that when Amazon puts on their big show for the new tablets, they could unveil a new lighted e-ink reader...such as a 5" or a 7" model. Otherwise, no PW2 for me until I can get it used, refurbished, or on sale. I want something different than a refresh of the same.

Here's some of the new software features:

An enhanced dictionary -- should make it easier to look up multi-word phrases and go to wikipedia.

On-page footnotes - sounds fantastic.

On-screen translation - for those books who love to thrown in random foreign words and sentences, uses Bing translation tool - again, sounds fantastic.

Vocab builder - flashcard game with all the words you look up in the dictionary.  If I had a dime for all the words I've accidentally looked up, I could buy a new Paperwhite without thinking twice!  Sounds like fun, but I don't think it'll work for me.

Eventual Goodreads integration (which sounds fun, but then again, I never browse the store on my Kindle so how often would I really use it?  And who wants to type a review on a keyboard like that?  Looks like you could easily sync highlighted passages to your quotes section But I never "like" quotes on GR in the first place.)

As fantastic as the on-page footnotes and translation sound, I already have current model of Paperwhite and they're not really enough for me to want to rush out and get the new model.

Not one of those features would ever be used by me. And almost all of them would require you to be on line to use them.

I've been giving some very deep thought to all of the apps on everything lately. It's bad enough they can drop tracking cookies in on all my web browsing. I can live with that. But all these apps, especially 3rd party apps, when you download them (or that cute little game), you give permission to access just about everything contained on your smartphone or your desktop or your tablet. Those apps can data mine your email list, your contact list, all your history, and on and on. It's really scary when you think about it. Does some game developer in Sweden have a need for your Outlook contact list? So now when I see variations coming on an ereader (not a tablet, but an ereader) that begins to concern me.

See I don't use any extra stuff on the Kindle touch. I use it to read..LOL thats it.  I did have some word game on there but took it off.  My wifi is off 99% of the time.  I only turn it on to update or to get a new book. :)

I know I can email or do notes or something but, I just cannot get my mind around that.  I've a smartphone that does all that fancy crap.

I"m a Sony fan, but they've just announced the spec on the new prs-T3, and there's nothing new there I care about except a better resolution screen. And everyone else is pretty comparable, as well has have the front light. Anything else they announced with it was stuff that I don't use and don't care about.

So this year it'll be the new Kobo Aura. More fonts, more font sizes, margin settings..... stuff I'll actually use.

Disappointing to have your favorite fail to progress.

The new screen tech on the Paperwhite sounds good....but the limitations don't. I don't want to have to root to get the features I want....The Kobo Aura looks like the best one right now. It's just more than I want to pay right now. So I'll bide my time....my Kobo Glo is my favorite ereader. So I think the Aura would be lovely.

To Win one, entered a contest on Facebook a while back and it just ended. The Author e mailed and told me she ordered me the new one so I would not be getting it until the end of the month.  For free  I can wait LOL.

I do most of my reading on my Ipad so will see how this works out

Cool Bertie!  Please come back and let us know how you like it once you get it.  I'm always interested in what people think of their ereaders.

wow congrats Bertie! I just got my refurb pw a few months ago so I don't need to even LOOK at another ereader..maybe this year I'll follow through the intsructions somoene gave me and figure out how to strip with calibre...afraid I'll mess everything up. :-( though with the differrent ereaders I have I'm pretty much covered unless a battery goes dead...

Well...I ordered the PW2. I have to see it before I know if I want to keep it or not. I also found a Kobo Mini to replace the one I sold. I regretted selling it. I will probably sell the Nook Simple Touch....don't need two unlighted e-readers.

First impressions...it is MUCH better than my original Paperwhite. Much faster, much whiter, the light is much more even.

Not able to add a font...so I am converting some books and embedding my font. Then to read it on the device, I select "publisher font." Works fine.
