Hello!  I am so happy with my new Kindle - I have had it just over a week, and have read two books on it and downloaded a bunch more.  I'm a bit confused about the battery capabilities, though.  The User's Guide says that the battery will last about 3 months, right?  I charged mine up a week ago, and it's already about 1/4 down.  I only have the wi-fi on when I'm downloading books, then turn it off.  I only use the Kindle for about an hour a day, and turn it off when not in use.  Am I doing something wrong, or does this sound like typical battery drain for the amount of use I give it?  Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

I recently got a Kindle and my battery life is about a month before I have to charge it. I read about an hour or two almost every evening (sometimes skip a day here and there). I only put the Wi-Fi on when downloading also. However, I don't turn the Kindle off, just lay it down when I'm done and it eventually goes into sleep mode or whatever Kindle calls it. Not sure you should be turning it off.

I think most things I've read said about a month is average before recharge, but usage has a lot to do with the life of the battery.

Maybe someone with a little more experience will answer.

No the battery will not last 3 months. It can last up to 1 month, depending on your usage.....if you download hundreds of books, it will spend a lot of energy doing that and indexing every word in every document.

I never let mine drain all the way, I usually plug it in when it gets halfway down.

no, you don't need to turn it off. Just set it down and let it go into sleep mode.

Also I have read where some people think its best to press home before you leave it, but I prefer to leave it on the page I am reading. That way I can start reading instantly when I turn it back on.

OK, thanks for the advice/information - I don't feel quite so bad, then.  Does the screen eventually go blank when in sleep mode, or does the picture stay on the screen - any potential for "screen burn" if that is the case?

Blank is Totaly OFF   Pic is sleep mode & No it wont burn the pic into the screen!  I read 6-10 hrs per day & my battery lasts about 3 weeks!  IF I notice it getting low & I want to keep reading I plug it into my computer to charge.

I've had the same experience as most of the above ^

I have a Kindle 3 and the battery lasts about 3 weeks to a month depending on my wifi use.

The picture doesn't burn into the screen. You may notice that when you enter your password, the picture shows faintly in the "white" text box, but once it flashes completely black to get to the home page/ page you left off, that will disappear.

I also never turn mine off. I either leave it alone or just slide and release the power switch so it will go to sleep.
