Hi, i have recently just joined paperback swap and have sent out about 12 books already. I am having a problem with the first book i ever requested and i want to know if this is normal. I requested a book on 6/6 and a few days later on my screen it says that the sender will mail the book by 6/14 by 11 pm ET..which is fine. It is now 6/15 after the deadline and my book is still not marked mailed...is that normal or is this person not following the rules. It is too late to cancel the book order and yes i am getting a bit impatient as i was fine waiting a week for the book to be mailed since people do have lives, but i am starting to get a little worried with the fact that it is after the deadline they requested and they still have not mailed the book...by the way i am not making a big deal out of it yet since the deadline was just yesterday but what do i do if it goes a few more days and the book still is not mailed?

the sender has 2 days past the date that they said they would mail to mark it mailed.

Nope you can't cancel...

If the sender does not mark it mailed it will "time out" and you will be put back on the WL line waiting for another copy to be posted.

Danielle, it sounds like your book request may have already gone through two different members--once you request a book, the person has about 5 days to respond to your request--if they don't, it's passed along to the next person in line.  You can look at the member's name by clicking on the PM button on the tab telling you the book is on its way to you--that way if your order is still pending several days later you can recheck the name and see if it has been passed on to someone new.

Most orders get sent within the 5 day period, so don't get discouraged!

Does it say if the label was printed? If the label wasn't printed you can still cancel the request.  But when you request it again it'll just go to that same person.  I would PM them and ask them if they have forgotten to mark the book mailed. If there are other copies in the system it will automatically reorder the book for you if it's not marked mailed on time.  If you end up with 2 copies you do not have to give a credit to the 1st person who neglected to mark it mailed.  You only have to give a credit to the one marks it mailed.  But you should at least PM them and remind them to mark it mailed or the system will reorder the book.  If they respond saying they mailed it bugt just forgot to mark it mailed-then you can cancel the next request before you end up with 2 books.  I forgot to mark 2 books mailed the other day.  It was still a few days away from the time out date but still-I mailed them out and then didn't mark them mailed until the next day. I forgot even though I was on the message boards.

I just had the same thing happen and I'm not so new here.  You can go to your "transaction archive" and click on "request details" to see exactly what did happen.  If they cancelled there will be a X on the left hand side of the book list.  There are so many great tools here that it's hard to find them all so soon after joining.  I've enjoyed PBS a lot and have gotten great books with very little hassle.  There willbe a few snags along the line, but overall you will find that most of the swaps go on without a problem. Right now I have one book waiting for acceptance from someone who has nothing on his bookshelf and nothing on his WL. I also have a book waiting for acceptance from someonre who has their bookshelf on "hold".  I didn't think the system would go to someone's bookshelf for a request when the bookshelf is on hold, but that's what's happened.  Hope things work out smoothly for you from here on.

Ruth the person with the shelf on hold-you are waiting for them to respond to a book you posted?  You can still request books when your shelf is on hold. It could be that they don't have money for postage right now and have their WL set to auto request.

If it's a WL book offered to you than it could be that they have their shelf on hold to prevent WL offers from coming through. I have mine on hold because I'm moving.  But I still post and send out WL books.  So anyone looking at who's sending their book might think it's odd that my shelf is on hold.

Yes, it is my request for a book that's on my WL on auto-request.  When I go to see who has it (because I'm beginning to check out everybody since I've had a little trouble with cancellations on WL books)  This message comes up -

"This member currently has their account on hold.  When this member returns their books will once again become active."

And my " Books I've Requested " says "Waiting for member."

So I'm a little perplexed since it is a book that I really want.  I don't know that I can do anything about it.  There is one other person waiting for this book and it's the 3rd of a long series that I have most of the books.  Strange??  I think so.  But I'll take your word for it, and hope for the best.  Thanks

Ruth

Yeah, I've been keeping mine on Hold and just come off Hold long enough to post WL books and get them accepted and then back on Hold I go...
