I just joined this swap club, but I don't see anything stating how it works in any detail. Where am I missing it.

You can use either one.  Note though, some books list the ISBNs on one of the first pages of the book, and when they do they occasionally  also list an ISBN for an alternate version (like a paperback) in the same area.  So if you take the ISBN from the inside page, make sure it's not for a different version of the book.  If there's an ISBN on the back cover, that's usually safe to use.

When you post an individual book, a box will come up asking you to confirm that the title, author, ISBN and version match--make sure you do this so you don't have problems later on.

I posted 7 Science fictions books, all that I have at this time, but I need to post 10. Can I post books of a different type?

My advice to new members is to post anything and everything you have that you are willing to part with. You will be amazed at the things that are wishlisted.  I cleaned off my teenagers' bookshelves and was shocked to find that my son's Japanese phrasebook was wishlisted....who knew??

It depends on the weight of the book.  Most paperbacks can go for the up-to-one-pound media mail rate of $2.38.  Most hardbacks need the up to 2 pounds rate of $2.77.

Search the help docs for USPS postage rates...there is a table that shows the rates.

Also, be sure you do read the posting guidelines, as to what condition of books is allowed--make sure you aren't posting those that are water damaged, stained, falling apart, etc. There's also a sticky post at the top of this forum that has "tips for new members." You might want to browse through that too.

Welcome to PBS!

You don't have to post all the same genre and You don't have to post all 10 at once to get the start up credits. If 7 is all you have right now you'll get the start up credits when you post the other 3.

Before you run out and buy used books just to post I would peruse the WL of various genres.  Some authors like James Patterson, Nora Roberts  and several others are very heavily posted into the system and it may take months before their books are ordered.   After a while you'll learn what gets requested quickly and what will sit for along time.

Postage price varies.  A small paperback can probably be sent for about $2. 1st Class.  A really heavy hardcover might be $3.50 to mail.  Most books are between $2.38-$2.77.

Another question, I have two requests so I have to figure out how this works. When I joined I was not sure about just what I was getting into so I used a fake name. I am very careful about online stuff. Can I change the fake name to my real name so that the mailing address is correct. Also who gets my personal information, name, screen name, street address, city name, etc?

If you don't want people requesting your books to know where you live, you can change the return address to PBS's HQ.  However, if something were to happen to the book in transit and it was returned to the return address, you'll never see it again.  You can change this on account settings.

Your address will otherwise only be given to people who send you books.

What shows up in your profile and on the forums can be changed in the account settings page.

I believe you can't change your own address until you've mailed a certain number of books, but you can use the "contact us" link and ask the PBS team to change your name and address for you.  This can be found at the bottom of the page.

The only people who would get your address are people you order books from and people you send books to if you choose to use your own return address.  your sceen name shows to anyone looking at the forums.  To change your name you will probably have to contact PBS.

I contacted "Feedback" to see if they can change the name that I used. I will go ahead and list my books, but I don't know what to do about the books that have been requested from me.

Did you just use a fake name?  Some people have used their name and surname initial rather than their complete name.  I think the main concern would be your address.  That is your return address just in case a book gets returned to you.  Also you'd want to have your address correct so you can receive the books you order.  Some folks do get a PO box just for their books.

All kinds of things to consider.

I am sorry that my questions might seem ugly or unfriendly, but at this point I am new to this website and only want to trade books. I want people to be able to see what books that I have to send them and I where to send my books. I am involved in several forums and recknize the people who use the forum regularlly, but we con't form a relationship or become buddies.

Jake, no problem Lots of people like to use the forums, but most members of PBS just use the site to trade books and rarely, if ever, post anything.

If you used your correct address when you joined, the person that you order the book from is able to print a label for mailing that will have your name and address on it. (This label can also be used as a wrapper for a small to medium sized paperback book). If the name is wrong, I am not sure what your local post office will do. Sometimes they deliver the "wrong" name mail, and sometimes they don't (in my experience). So, I would use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the pages to ask PBS to change your name (and/or address, if needed)  to be correct.

Under "My Account --> Settings" is where you can control whether people in the forums can see your name, nickname, and city/state. You can also control what will show in your profile. But, people that you order books from will always see your real name and address on the mailing label.

So. a buddy is usually a person that you have become friendly with, or have common reading interests with. You can put them on your "Buddy List" so that you have quick access to their bookshelves (if it is a person that you like to order directly from) ... you can also see their wishlist, in case you have books that you want to offer directly to them (bypassing FIFO), and also a PM link, so that you can communicate easily. People use their buddy lists for different reasons, but usually it is people who have similiar taste in books, or who like to play games together (in the Games forum) etc. You can add a person a buddy if you go to their profile (click on their nickname) and then there is a button that (I think) is labeled (+ Buddy) and when you click on that, they will be sent a buddy request.

Looks like I messed up. I had two people requesting books. I clicked that I could ship them. I printed the label for one of them, but I don't know how to get back to the page that allows me to print the label for the other book that was requested.

I listed some more books, a total of 14. They all show up on "My Book Shelf", but only 12 books show up on "View my Public Bookshelf", why is that ?

Jake,

There are probably two books on 1 hour WL hold.  They should show up as a request soon.
