Another wonderful book by Sandra Dallas and my new favourite by her! A beautiful tale about finding yourself amongst strangers. Lovely, engaging writing -- I was sorry when it was over!

Wonderful story, set in the Old South of 1933. Truly not to be missed if the traditions and history of the south are of intrest to you.

I enjoyed this book. It is a quick read that takes place in Mississippi and also Colorado. It is a little bit of a love story, and little bit of mystery, and takes place in 1933.

This book was very satisfying and entertaining. This suspense and the period (the depression) added together and made it very real.

This was a good book and a fast read - sort of a mystery, sort of a story about finding out the truth about your own family history and an interesting look into Mississippi during the 1930s amid the Depression.

Thumbs down. I could not get into this book. Very slow moving. I posted it this morning, and it on on several wish lists. Good luck, I hope someone enjoys the book.

The story didn't grip and surprise as much as other Sandra Dallas novels, however it did have a somewhat surprising twist at the end. It helps to think of our definition of family and how learning about the past can often help us to learn more about ourselves. I alos liked reading Sandra Dallas historical fiction in a setting other than pioneering the Western US.

I enjoyed this book but not nearly as much as some of her others. It was kind of slow moving. My favorite of what I have read by this author is The Diary of Mattie Spencer. I highly recommend that one.

I didn't expect to love this book, but I found myself believing in the characters and needing to find out what happened to them. Definitely worth the read.

Natchez, Mississippi, in 1933 is a place suspended in time. The silver and china is still dented and cracked from Yankee invaders. And the houses have names...and memories. Nora Bondurant is running away--from her husband's death, from his secrets, and from the ghosts that dog her every step. When she receives a telegram informing her that she has an inheritance, Nora suddenly has somewhere to run to: a house named Avoca in Natchez, Mississippi. Now, she's learning that the lure of Natchez runs deep, and that, along with Avoca, she's inherited a mystery. Nora's aunt Amalia Bondurant was killed in a murder/suicide, and the locals are saying nothing more--except in hushed, honeyed tones. As Nora becomes more and more enmeshed in the community and in her family's history, she learns surprising things about the life and death of her aunt: kinship isn't always what it seems, loyalty can be as fierce as blood relations, and every day we are given new mercies to heal the pain of loss and love.

I was drawn in to this story from the start! I can't wait for her new book Tallgrass to come out in 2007.
