I just finished a book this afternoon so the timing was perfect!  I recieved two books in the mail today, my first with PBS.  One is one of the "Lord John" books by Diana Gabalodn.  I am anxiously waiting for Santa to bring me Echo in the Bone so hopefully this will tie me over until then.  Anyone read them??  I hear they are not as good but hopefully it will be a decent read.  I also got a book for my Mother in Law that I just requested last Wednesday or Thursday!!  Talk about fast!

Welcome to PBS and the historical fiction forum Courtenaye!  I have not read the Lord John books yet but I have the first one sitting on my shelf.   There is a thread floating around here somewhere about An Echo in the Bone.  I think so far the consensus is it doesn't come close to touching the rest of the Outlander series.

No!!  I hate to hear that!  My friend turned me on to the series a few months back and I read them all back to back so I am thouroughly invested int he characters at this point.  I hate when a good series goes bad.  i thought that happened with the lates in the Lady Emily series too, although I saw it dod have a few good reviews on here.

Welcome I enjoy Diana Gabaldon a lot too. Your pile of books will grow rapidly as you learn about new books and authors you never knew existed.

Hello Courtnaye, and welcome.  I think your smart to read the Lord John books before Echo, there are several cross over characters in Echo.  Though I was dissapointed in Echo, It's still Gabaldon.  Yes?  I was not sorry I read it.

Congrats on your first books.  As a newbie myself I will warn you - invest in bookshelves now!  I have books scattered all over, under, and around my nightstand just taunting me thanks to the HF forum  :D  My bedroom used to be so organized ~ sigh

I bought a huge 5-shelf bookcase when I moved into my new apartment a few months ago (this is in addition to the smaller 3-shelf one in my bedroom) and I now have books not only filling all shelves, but also stacked on top of the neatly lined books.  Crap.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  So far I have been mostly lurking in the HF forum and I have already found so many great titles to put on my wish or reminder lists.  I have a great used book store that I frequent and can quite often get books for as low as a dollar but  it is hard to go looking for specific titles so this is perfect!  My TBR shelf at home was already overflowing before I found PBS so I think I am in trouble!  The only good thing is that this will force to to be rid of some of my books that my husband hassles me about holding on to!  Thanks again!

Hi, Courtenaye!

I was going to refer you to Deb's post, but as usual, I'm a day late and a dollar short. Well, two dollars because Valli keeps posting about book sales.

I'm probably one of the few here that like the Lord John series. The first book in the series is the weakest, I think. But I still enjoyed it.

I haven't read Echo yet. I'm hoping to get to it over the holiday break.

I'm a dedicated Gabaldon fan. I'll read anything she writes.

I do love my now disorganized bedroom - my husband is on a mission to get some shelves installed for me though.  It's pretty bad when HE can't handle the mess.

I did not like the Lord John Series - I tried - I really did, but I just couldn't get into it.

Patiently waiting for my Echo book to arrive.

Welcome, Courtenaye!  I have not read the Outlander series, but I have the first book on my list for next year's challenge so I'm looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.  As everyone has said, you'll get plenty of ideas from this forum.  I think I already have acquired more books than I'll read in my lifetime!!

Welcome to the best forum known to man, Courtenaye! Do read Deb's link so you can see what is in store for you here. :-D

I hope your husband doesn't think you are actually going to have LESS books now. Hahahaha! Stick with us and your TBR will be taller than the hubby, much taller. ;-)

Welcome, Courtenaye! Such a lovely spelling of your name.  We are always glad to have new friends, but we warn you.....we will become an addiction! A few years ago we did a survey and most of us on here need our HF thread fix like we need our morning coffee, he he he.......but we share all good things and the ladies on this thread are among the very most helpful and caring on PBS, so you've landed in a great place---and we're delighted to have you!
