Thanks for the interesting link Bob. I often wonder who the people are that these surveys claim to have contacted. A majority of Americans probably do say that they are religious, or believers. But I truly believe that a lot of these people are afraid to not say so! It's just a part of our culture, at least right now, to say you believe in God or are religious. I think there are a lot more unbelievers or agnostics in the US, but they just don't admit it. Especially if they have been brought up in a religious household. I know it took me a long, long, long time to admit that I don't believe and probably never really have.
I don't have a problem with people being personally religious (by this I mean not bringing religion into government and public affairs). I do believe, however, that as civilization progresses, we will become less and less so. Look at Europe - they aren't nearly as religious as we are. And I think it's because they are an older civilization and also have experienced devastating wars on their soil.
