I like your idea, but apparently they are not listening to us about this anymore.

I think that they have the experience with setting up and running the site. They've put a lot of time into working out a new system and they are doing what they're doing for a reason.  I also think people are stressing out way to much about this whole thing.

No I do not agree. I have all of my WL on auto, but there have been many members who say they do not/will not use the auto-request and I do not think that should put them in the back of the line just because they want to see the order before it happens. I think that sounds significantly worse than the current system or the planned changes, and does not really accomplish their purpose for changing it.

After seeing how the system works at SwapaDVD, I really have no issues with the proposed new wishlist.

OK deja vu. Why did you start this thread twice?

After seeing how the WL works on SwapaCD, I have major problems with it being implemented here. I'd rather have a book # limit like we have now than infinite and that ranking system.

I don't want AR.

I don't want people who aren't here to have their stuff on AR.  Enough WL books time out--I'd really rather not mail it to someone who isn't here anymore!

I am gleeful when I get a wish granted PM from the site.  The order note from SwapaDVD just doesn't do it (I tried AR over there).  And it gives me pause when I get random things I didn't order in my mailbox. I'd rather be more involved.

I don't think I've ever turned down a WL book.  So I don't think I'm a "bad" member or should be bumped to the back of the line because you are too impatient to let me answer my email.

But you know?  If I'd just bought the book, came home and found I had it on offer. I'd go check and see if there were other wishers.  If there were, I'd decline the book.  It hasn't hurt the sender any and it has improved the person after me.  (And yes, I could just repost it--but that'll take at least a couple weeks before they get it).

Math was never my "thing" but I do have a son with a minor degree in mathematics. I have the feeling that I am going to need him to help me figure out the wishlist on PBS! Not a warm fuzzy at all.......I can only hope that it isn't as difficult as it reads!

I do not agree with this suggestion at all.   And I certainly wouldn't like to think that instead of doing what they KNOW is best for this site, R&R did was was most popular.     To me - it's really not that big a deal.   I put my books on my wish list - when I get, I GET THEM, it's not as if I'm sitting around with nothing to read.

What we have works, so why fix what isn't broken?

Well, because you have your books on AR, the system works great for you as a receiver.  It works great for me too because I also have my books on AR.  However, I am continually frustrated by non-responders when I post books.  I have found that the vast majority of PBS'ers don't use AR.  So, I am hoping the new system fixes some of that mess!

I guess OP deleted so I have no idea what was proposed.  I also don't know about a new WL thing and I guess I missed that on a recent newsletter.

I use AR on SOME books but not all.  There are some books that I want to be able to refuse even though I was on the list for a while.  Maybe my credits are low and that particular book isn't worth using a credit at that time.

Carol C...for some reason whatever suggestion you made did not show up on your post.

As far as the new WL...people don't sweat it, it is real simple...the higher you have it on your rating for wanting it the more points it will accrue...you will still have the option of Auto Request or 48 hour hold.  I for one like that the hold is 48 hours though personally if I was setting it up I'd limit it to 24 hours before it timed out and went to the next person requesting it.

On the DVD swap I've had more than one book rated at 1 at the same time...the short of it is if it isn't moving up the ladder for you to get the book as quickly as you'd like just increase the rating.  In the new WL system you will have more control on how fast your book moves up the list to you getting it, currently you have absolutely no control.

I for one am looking forward to the new WL system...change can be fun and exciting if you don't just focus on the potential negatives and look at the potential positives.

To me, it seems the new system will penalize those of us who want all our books equally.  FIFO is a fair system, one of the things that drew me to this site when I first joined up.  A level playing field for all to get the books they want.  This new ranking system skews that.  Because the system will perceive that I want one book more than I want another, which isn't true (I'll probably just be using the auto ranking system because I do want all my WL books fairly equally and can't decide on some ranking order) and some books "less" than others, some members who have been waiting a shorter time will get "my" books before I do.

I just think that's unfair and messed up.  I don't see how this benefits the site at all, except to help some impatient people who want to send out their books faster.  I will be using the 48 hr hold option, not Auto Request for everything, so nothing will change for those impatient people waiting to hear from me.

The only new feature I like is unlimited WL.  But that will be necessary since they are combining WL and RL.  (Currently, my RL books really are ones I want less than the WL books.  I hope when they merge my lists, my RL books get lower rankings.  Can't delete them because even though I didn't want them right away, I do want them...)

I don't understand why they want to penalize the faithful here, but it is their site, so I have to live with their rules...
