I don't want to stir up an ongoing controversy about pros and cons of the proposed new wish list but just wondering what the status is..........Is it really going to happen?

I like the ideal of being able to have certain books on the wish list on hold without losing my place in queue without going on vacation hold.............

They've been talking about it for 2 yrs now. I wish they would just do it already.  I don' t like the idea of losing the RL but then I'll just tag them instead of putting them on a list.

I would have loved to have been able to put just my WL on hold when I was selling a house preparing to move cross-country. I ended up donating a lot of books to the thrift store because I didn't want to delete all my WL books but then I didn't want any coming before and during my move either.

I think you are asking the wrong people.  We know no more about it than you do.  Would love for you to ask TPTB that and let us know the answer.

I never understood why they would need to get rid of the RL, even if they went through with the new WL.

I can read minds - they are going to tell you "we are working on it" :)

I do want to point out that the WL on Hold won't necessarily mean you won't lose your place in the que. You will be able to keep your point total, but you won't be earning any either so people who are actively earning points could start passing you up and you'd move down the que.

No doubt, some of the proposed wishlist changes have merit!

The last I heard was that TPTB told someone on a sister site that the membership of PBS is deadset against the "new" WL.  As it's been proposed - I can count my self in that group.  I love PBS just because it is simple and works well automatically.  That's one of the best things it has going for it.

Me either.  Why can't we have both.  I love having a RL.

From a programming point of view it's redundant. The new WL has a "hold" feature which means that the book isn't collecting points -- that 's the same as having it on the RL. You can also sort the WL so it only shows the "hold" items, which effectively shows the "RL" separated from the actual 'WL" books. Of course, that is from the perspective of how the site designers imagined how the RL will be used, not necessarily how members use it in practice.

I also use the RL for books that are in the system, but that I do not want to purchase yet.

I'm hoping maybe they can keep the RL even if they institute the new WL. *crosses fingers* I'm definitely not opposed to the new WL and I hope that they change it eventually, I just hate the fact that I will lose my RL.

I participated in a local focus group for PBS, and they indicated that changing the WL from FIFO is not going to happen anytime soon or even for sure.

Me too. Having the WL "hold" doesn't really help us in that situation, because we wouldn't be able to put them on our WL to begin with.:/

Losing the seperate RL is my only complaint about the proposed changes. I don't care about rating books. The only books I plan to spend any time rating are out of print books. Anything after that I will get when I get them (helps to have a huge TBR).  I put no effort into rating my DVD WL and I still get them.

If they are going to remove the seperate RL then they have to show how many copies of books are posted on the book listing without us having to put it on WL hold or post it to our shelves.
