This meditation classic gives us a serene, reassuring thought as we end our day and face the night--or as we face a dark moment in the course of our day. Night Lights quotations, reflections, and simple prayers ease the loneliness, fear, and anxiety that can burden our nights so we can wake up and meet each new day refreshed and inspired. (back cover)

Don't try to saw sawdust. -- Dale Carnegie
The pile of sawdust that gathers under our woodworking can never go back to its previous form. The lumber used to build a house can never return to the forest as a tree. That is a law of nature: whatever takes on a new form can never return to its original state. We may believe this statement as a law of nature, but may not believe it also applies to the past.
We can never go back to the past; the past can never become the present. We are not the same people today that we were when we were five years old, ten years old, or twenty years old. If we are always trying to live in the past, then we are trying to saw sawdust. To live in the present, we must work with new pieces of wood and make new piles of sawdust.
Tonight I can stop living in the past and see the present for what it realy is: clean, fresh, and new.
