I wanted to share what I bought for my older daughter. A tablet that is not a nook, kindle, etc. I am typing this on it! I love it. It is a Lenovo A2107. I got it on Amazon for $150. All I can say is wow. I may have to get another one for me :)

I have a Nexus 7 that I love. I like it even better than my Ipad.

There are a lot of nice ones out there now. I'm sure she will love it!

I definitely have an interest in the Nexus 7. But not going to spend that much. I am not comfortable spending more than $150 on a tablet or ereader. I am hoping the $99 Nexus rumor comes true some time. I will be screaming, take my money!!! hehe

So to add to my post above, with the Lenovo, I have downloaded the Chrome browser. It works great and all my bookmarks were available! I've got a kindle app on it, linked to my 3rd amazon account which mostly has books for the 9-12 yo age group. And I have my Amazon app store on it, linked to my primary amazon account. And the google play store. So now I can put the Kinectimals for android game I bought them on there. I have a couple of reading apps....Aldiko and Moon+. I'll have to see what she likes better. I have dropbox, so I can load epubs wirelessly and open them in Aldiko. (I think Moon does mobi, too).

The keyboard on the Lenovo is excellent. Better than the one on my original Fire. It has bluetooth and GPS, too.  My  HER case should arrive tomorrow, can't wait....I should put one of my books on it and compare the reading experience to what I use on my Fire (prefer Mantano Lite there).

Will report in this thread when I have more to share.

FEEL FREE to talk about any open tablet, such as the Nexus, here!  How do they work for you as reading devices?

Well I removed Moon+ and added Mantano Lite. I really like that one, when you got to landscape, you can read in a 2 page layout, like a paper book. I think that is a cool feature. So I was reading a book on it, and it was nice. I don't think any tablet could replace eink as a reader. Maybe the 5" Galaxy Player could, since it is probably a lot lighter than any 7" tablet.

Very interested in the Nexus 7.  How do you like reading on the different apps vs a dedicated reader?  Can you have shelves like the Nook/Kobo/Sony have?

Very interested in the Nexus 7.  How do you like reading on the different apps vs a dedicated reader?

I don't read very long on it. Mostly email and news articles. Short stuff. I like eink better for long-term reading.

As to the screen, it's realy sharp. I don't have any problems seeing it as good as my Ipad with retinal display. Fonts are nice and smooth.

Can you have shelves like the Nook/Kobo/Sony have?

It doesn't have it's own reader app, so how books are stored depend on the app you're using. There's free apps for Kindle, Sony, Nook, and Kobo. Plus third party ones. You can have them all on one tablet if you want.

I use Filemanager to store my stuff on the Nexus like I do my PC hard drive. I can browse it and then click on an item and it'll ask me what I want to open it with. Then show me my choices.

There are various ebook apps out there. Some that you can get at Google are... Here.

I usually use Aldiko, and it opens epub files.

I'm not sure about flash. I will try to find out.

Amazon is out of the Lenovo, but newegg.com has them, at least their ebay store does.

Ok, the Lenovo will play video from youtube. That requires flash, doesn't it?

Oh yay. Discovered the the 8 gb the Lenovo claims to have is partioned so that only 2gb is available for apps. I am totally not happy about that. Will do more investigating, but I think re-partitioning or allocating of partition space is going to be out of my comfort zone. Now I'll have to see what other manufacturers set aside for apps. I'm curious! It seems the fact I have a 32GB card in it is completely irrelevant!

Yes, I think I did that with the ones I was allowed to. I also think there are some pre-installed apps I can do away with. Really won't get another chance to play with it until Monday.

Sarah, I was looking at the Lenovo A2107 today, and it has Adobe Flash 11.1 on it.

Well now my girls have finally started playing with their tablets, and I like the Kindle much better than the Lenovo. I think the display is better, the refresh rate maybe? And that little partition on the Lenovo, I still haven't figured that out. Except that I run out of space with only a few games installed by me. I think there is a ton of crap filling it up that came pre-installed, that I can't uninstall. I am looking into gaining root access, then maybe I can uninstall those. VERY annoying. I haven't run into any storage issues with the Fire 2nd generation, and they both have 8GB. Oh well....never again.

Now I need Amazon to run a sale on the Fire HD 7 so I can get my own!

See, I've decided I want the 7" also because it's easier to hold. If they don't run any sales before March 17, I'll just buy one!

I may be getting a good deal on a used one. Waiting for pictures.

Yes! Getting the 7" Fire HD with Amazon Case + fast power charger + Marware case, hopefully by Wednesday.

Yes, the official Amazon case and a Marware case. Good, because I always seem to have an extra case or two for each device.

Yeah well they are $45 so no wonder! I wouldn't have paid that much, there are cheaper alternatives. But I'll be glad to have it!
