With the addition of various apps to the Nook Color, I thought it might be useful to have a thread to discuss them.

To make it easier to scan the thread, please put the titles of apps in BOLD

Have at it! I'll start with an additional post.

OK, first the obvious: Angry Birds

The question is whether it's worth it. IMO, it most certainly is! It's a LOT of fun. If you've tried it before, I think it's much eaiser to play on the larger screen. If you've played it before and didn't like it, well, I don't think you'll like it any better on the Nook.

OK, for the GOODREADS app

Well, this one is very buggy. It keeps crashing when I go to add or look at a book, or to browse my book shelf. I think it will be a really great app for GoodReads users, but right now it's just not worth the time or effort.

It is free, however, so if you want to download and wait for the update, that would be OK. But for right now it's mostly not functional. At least for me.

The only Apps I have are -

ez PDF Reader - 5 Stars great, lets every book you down load from all those small sites look like a B&N nook book (well kind of) you can highlight, bookmark, etc. it was cheap and worth the money to me.

Astraware Solitaire (12 games) - 5 stars - Love it!!! great fun, lots of games to choose from.

Astraware Mahjong 5 stars! - again - Love it!! great graphics, lots of fun!

Astraware Sudoku - This is a little pricey at $4.99, It's now $2.99. If you're a sudoku addict it is far superior to the freebie that comes with the Nook.

It has auto-pencil, a daily puzzle (you can log your score online if you like), and six different difficulty levels (Beginner, Easy, Medium, Tricky, Fiendish and Diabolical). You can also enter your own puzzle (say, from a book, magazine, daily calendar, newspaper, etc.)

The hint feature gives a hint that includes the logic for your hint, so it's helpful for learning some of the fine points of the more advanced puzzles.

Also there is a separate bar for pencil numbers and another one for your final answers. No toggling back and forth. Numbers are grayed out when they are complete.

Don't let the reviews on Nook freak you out. Most of them are "why would you buy this? it comes for free" and there was an issue that Astraware forgot to remove the beta timeout. That problem has been corrected, so it will now not expire at 30 days.

OK, if you pull up your menu across the bottom of the screen, there's an "apps" option. Click on it and it will show you the pre-installed apps. There will be a green bar across the top of the page that says "More apps" that will take you to the Nook version of the Apps store. If you purchase, you will be charged automatically to your gift card (if you have one on file) or your credit card linked to your account. Free apps, of course, are free and no charges will be made for them. You will still receive a "receipt" for the free apps, just like you would for a free e-book.

Hope this helps, Carol!

I have UNBLOCK ME as well. I like it, and my daughter absolutely loves it! You slide the blocks around to move one block through the opening. Some of the puzzles are really tough!

GLOBS - This is the same as the internet game. select which color to change the upper left hand dot to merge it with adjacent dots of the same color. You have a limited number of moves to merge all of the dots on the board. Bonuses for each move not used. A fun puzzle game!

You can try this one online before you buy.

Anyone try to install the upgrade for Goodreads? I can't get it to install at all, even after uninstalling it completely and trying to reinstall.

I finally got the Angry Birds App, and I am sooo addicted to it! Help!

I also got Ms. Pacman and while it is kinda cool to have a classic game like that, it is very hard to navigate! You have a little touch joystick at the bottom of the screen that is not so touchy, if you know what I mean. I can't ever get it to go where I want and always get eaten by the ghosties! I used to be so good at pacman! I guess I need to practice.

Wendy, I have heard that you don't have to use the joystick for Ms. Pacman. Just swipe the screen in the direction you want to go. Perhaps you can give that a try?

And yes, Angry Birds is very addictive!

I have Aces Bubble Popper, Angry Birds, and  Drawing Pad.

My Daughter loves to draw on the drawing pad. She makes all kinds of things and it is a great thing to have when you are in the waitng room , at the grocery store, etc. It really keeps her occupied. She just started to play with the Bubble Popper and she like  to play on the super action level. Of course I love angry birds. Overall, the ones I have bought are worth the money. I also downloaded a calculator app for the grocery store for .99. My other one kept getting lost or broken. It works out well for me.

I recently got a Nook Color.  Not too interested in paying for apps.  What are some freebie apps that people like?

OK, first an update: Plants vs. Zombies is a little slow to load on my Nook Color, but it plays just fine.

As for free apps, I find that I have very few that I haven't paid something for. And the ones I tend to play repeatedly are ones I bought. Sorry I can't help you much there. :(

I bought myself a Nook Tablet for Christmas and am slowing adding and starting to use the Apps.  Here are some I have downloaded:

  • Angry Birds Rio (cost was $2.99).   I bought this before a long plane flight.   I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about.    A first I didn't get it ... but now I'm addicted just like everyone else LOL.
  • Ninja Popcorn (free).    Before I got Angry Birds, I was addicted to this game - and still love to play it.   It's very fast paced.
  • Abbeys Free Decorative Wallpaper (I don't remember this being totally free, but it was cheap and gave me lots of pretty and/or fun options for wallpaper)
  • London City Guide (Trip Advisor) - I found this one day while searching for free Apps and downloaded it because I'm heading to London this fall. Although obviously not as extensive as the actual Trip Advisor website, i's a very thorough guide for London's hotels, attractions, shopping, nightlife, etc.     If you aren't heading for London yourself, they probably have similar apps for other large tourist cities (like New York City.)

I only have a few so far but I love Quell and and Angry Birds Rio for games. I also downloaded Life, which is a lot of fun!

I have a few Abbey's wallpaper too -- I think I paid .99 for them. Very much worth it.

I have News Pulse, which colates all my news sources to one place. Everything from hard news to politics to entertainment. Very convenient.

I didn't know there was a Goodreads ap -- I'll have to go find that!

I'm in love with Where's the Water . It's 99 cents right now. Angry Birds Space is also good though much more challenging than the others.
