... according to the generally reliable blog, Dear Author.
Here's Dear Author's balanced review of the Nook Color also, if you're interested: http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2010/11/23/review-nookcolor/
ETA on Monday 1/3: Well, Dear Author is normally reliable, and the article linked to a Best Buy page that showed the Nook Color for $199, which I then verified by going to the Best Buy home page on my own and searching for Nook, and saw the same page listing it at $199.99. It was a Best Buy page, I'm not that stupid or slack not to independently verify a webpage, but today I'm seeing it listed at its usual price.
The information looked solid to me, and I'm sorry if anyone not having a Nook already was deeply disappointed. Perhaps it was one day only, Jan 2.
What I'm seeing today is a reduced-price package that includes a warranty and a case and some other stuff when buying a Nook Color at the regular price.

Back in mid-December, I went into our local Best Buy to buy a Kindle. $30 in Best Buy rewards to use up, so I wanted to order it from them. They said they had a truck coming in in two days and took my cash and gave me an order confirmation. Got home and there was an email stating Best Buy was no longer selling Kindles and that my order never should have been allowed. Then I was told that because I'd paid cash, there was little they could do other than give me gift cards. The store directed me to headquarters and headquarters directed me to the local store. It was a wicked hassle. The store is 35 miles away, so I had to drive back to the store and demand they come up with a solution and I ended up getting the last Nook in the store, but they wouldn't discount it the $10 extra, despite their screw up.
I was finally told this. The demand for the Kindle and the Nook were much higher than anticipated. The companies aren't stocking them fast enough and backorders are now well into late January. For that reason, our store pulled the products from their shelves and stopped offering any sales on them. Even if the sale existed, they simply told people they were no longer selling them and that was that. I expect this is happening in more than one area.
