I received the new software update from B&N and it has the Google Play store.

The software loaded flawlessly, and I was able to get an app and start playing a GP game! Everything worked fine!

Just thought I would let folks know about it, and that I played the guinea pig for you!

For those who missed today's announcement, here is a USA Today article about it.

That's great news. They should have done it at launch. I wonder if they will be able to make it available to their other tablets, like the Nook Color?

No, they aren't, including the current Nook Tablet which sucks.  That's what I have.  But it is a boon for new HD owners and I really think BN too. They have a great ereader which was hampered by no app store.  This will definitely fix that!  I may have to upgrade my Nook Tablet.

I bought a N2A card and can access Google Play that way on my Nook color.  So, the capability is there for the Color and other B&N tablets.

Kindle Fire will not be adding google, IMO.

Sherri it would be an excellent upgrade. Maybe there will be another sale soon. I have read nothing but positive reports about the HD+. I like the look of the HD better, but some have complained of issues with the casing. But if you were to get it at your store locally, I think you could exchange it if there was an issue.

Yeah, I'm thinking that won't happen.

Remember, B&N wants to sell off their company, and may have to seperate the Nook division if a buyer doesn't want it. To do that, the Nook needs to be more of an "all purpose" tablet. Not only that, they'll want to get rid of their stock ASAP and this will help.

Amazon doesn't have the same problems B&N has.

B&N Drops the Price of the Nook HD ($149), Nook HD+ ($179) in Time for Mother’s Day

The deals are good in B&N stores as well as on Nook.com.

Update: You can also find this deal at BestBuy.

I wish this was Christmas 2012, I would SO have bought 2 of the Nook HD @ $149, if they had google play, for my daughters for Christmas!!! That's what I paid for my DD's Lenovo and, while it is an Android table, the screen really sucks IMO.

It wouldn't surprise me if they added it to the Color and Tablet eventually. There is demand, and I'm sure B&N will get a cut for each purchase through Google Play. We'll just have to wait and see.

I would really like that, because I can get some of the games my son likes that aren't available yet for Nook. (He has my old Nook Color.)

Best Buy has the best deal 32GB HD+ for $199. That is the best tablet deal anywhere this week.
